Should we repair Big Ben, if it costs £40 million?

I think so, as it will allow it to endure for many years to come and it's such an iconic symbol of the UK.

Technically, it's the Elizabeth Tower that is crumbling. Big Ben is the bell and has already had money spent on it.

I think the work should only go ahead as part of the wider Palace of Westminster works, if they go ahead.

Yes we should restore it, if we don't it would be like France refusing to restore the eiffel tower or USA refusing to restore the statue of liberty. Big Ben is essential for the UK tourist trade.

Maybe it should be funded from airport taxes - but definitely not increase them. I only caught the end of the news item and realise now it's part of the palace of Westminster repairs that are needed. Parliament should relocate for a few years, MPs in travelogue type hotels too. Cuts in expenses as well as not funding their obscene restaurant and bar facilities would probably pay for itself in a few weeks.

We could put them in a coach have them travel the country, have a sort of coffee mornings where the public can go and speak to parliament.

I think it should be repaired, it is part of the country's history. For me there are too many eyesores being built, instead of renovating or preparing historical buildings.

If you write to your MP they can arrange for you to have a tour up the tower to see it. Beats the normal tour hands down probably a good idea to go sooner or later before it stops working.

It's an iconic landmark sure they will fix it.

Let the fat cat MP's put their hands in their pockets instead of running up extravagant expenses bills for the bar/restaurant etc..They use the place more than us the tax payer!

Europe needs to either integrate or separate in my opinion!

But let's be perfectly honest here,how much of that money will be invested uk wide?

My guess would be very little,so my answer remains the same.

Complete waste of the publics purse.
