After the volte face Labour has done over the government's plans to start running budget surpluses from 2018 (in 'normal' years), do people think this a good idea or will it lead to deflationary measures being introduced that will make the austerity never ending?

Very pleased by the way in which this thread is being hijacked. After all, what Osborne is planning won't affect anyone on here, will it?

I admit I haven't a clue I'd have to read up. I will read with interest though.

Do you run your household budget on an ever increasing spiral of debt?

I love economists but there really has to be a little bit of realism involved at some point.

Austerity, is just mainly for people who don't want to work and want benefits.

The government can't afford to pay benefits like it used to, millions of immigrant who have never worked a day or paid taxes in their life see it as their human right to come here and claim thousands upon thousands for free, they can't afford it without putting this country in more debt and becoming bankrupt like greece.

Because of these idiots, the NHS will good as be bankrupt soon, so people who are suffering from things like cancer, are having cancer drugs cut or new drugs the NHS can't afford them.

The government need to stick to their promise of making work pay more than people who choose to not too.

Britain needs to pay off it deficit.

I say cut benefit further until it just surviving on the bread line, use that money to invest in Nhs, national security, investing in new income and border control.

Labour, I will never vote for them again, they destroyed this country, with their free for all immigration open borders, joining the E.U, IRAQ war, and benefits that were good as the same working family got through hard work.

............."

A lot of families do.

A mortgage is just another form of debt and most folk aspire to bigger (and better?) homes with corresponding bigger mortgages.
