I saw the program on bbc4 and it was an interesting watch, did you see it too? Its about an equation that is used to estimate the number of extra-terrestrial civilisations there are.

What is your view on this and can such equation really equate such things? Although they did say they used it as tool.

Whatever the equation is they should also add "minus the number of ones already here"

How did they come to the equation what makes them feel it is right it after all is not supported by any facts

I didn't see it but I love algorithms and forecasting etc. Like has been said, without any other known planet that contains life, it's going to be a tough one.

My own formula is as accurate as any other
