It's a really big turn off for me when people can't be bothered to type properly. I'm not talking about typos but abbreviating words like "have" - "av" , "where" - "wer" etc.

I think its good we all have our opinions I personally dnt worry because I cant spell properly and I typo all the time so I when I am mega busy do alot of mixed talk which confuses people.but if people wanna judge me on it then they jet dnt meet me its that simple

I really agree with you. To us it shouts lazy, can't be bothered, uneducated...We actually had our first block from someone who asked us why we weren't interested in them because we hadn't even met yet.... I answered saying if you're anything like the text (lazy etc) we don't want to know you...

It may be the 21st century however some thought and correct grammar goes a long way in forming an opinion of others.

It doesn't really bother me.

If you can read what they've put, then it's ok.

if they're fun to talk to. I find attractive, and aren't up their own ass, spell things wrong all you want.

I never assume someone's lazy.

Some people aren't good at spelling or are dyslexic.

What with auto correct I don't understand why it even happens. It's quicker to type a word fast, incorrectly and let auto do its magic than it is to spell the word incorrectly. As to grammar, and made up words......meh.

I'm a bit of a stickler I'm afraid... Of course, language is nothing if not dynamic, it evolves and spellings of words change.

But I really can't be bothered reading anything with intentionally lazy shortcuts (yes, not everyone is going to be a perfect speller, dyslexics have a tough enough time, and there'll be typos... I get that).

Language needs to communicate effectively.

But when I read, for example, a profile on here, which reads like a random stream of consciousness, full of txt spk, no punctuation, no sense of communication, I'm afraid I do judge and switch off halfway through.

If it makes me a language snob, I guess I'll have to live with that

2nd point is that langue is a fluid medium. The language of Shakespeare sounds odd to us today - that of Chaucer sounds alien. Language changes over time. You can't avoid that, or seek to preserve it in aspic, like the French do.

The third point is that yes, as the OP suggested, if ya cannae string a sentence together, yr not gonna get that far wiv me, blud. J'get me?

I'm really just messing around, but on a deeper level showing how little it matters anyway.

But people are of course free to choose who they play with on any basis.

I think it's to do with the positioning of a comma before 'and', which is generally frowned upon, unless the aforementioned 'and' is preceding the final item in a list, thus aiding understanding?

I make some mistakes when my eyes are tired and autocorrect kicks in and I can hardly see. But I find it a deterrent if someone throws a few letters down, like message scrabble and expects me to decode their game.

Spelling & grammar are deal breakers for us also. It's usually quite obvious which are 'typos' and which are a lack of spelling ability. That and photographs showing a complete lack of regard for the state of their homes are our personal turn offs.

Totally agree! I haven't used that kind of typing since I was at school. When I see 30 pluses using it, I think why! what is the need!

It can sometimes take me a while to translate a message written this way, especially if no grammar used. There's so many words get shortened nowadays, half the time I've no idea what they mean.

awww surely this place is about swinging ,which is about people ,if someone is rude or overtly sexual in an introductory message or basically rude all the time then that warrants criticism but a spelling or punctuation mistake or an abbreviated word does it really matter in the scheme of things ,getting on with people is more important I think ,sometimes the mistakes are accidental or predictive text is involved ,chill guys

As are we all im sure. However we would use the same filters as in real life to choose the people we wish to have sex with. Personality, looks, age etc all come into it as they will for everyone, but everyone will have their own nuances. If some people are turned off by what they perceive as a lack of basic English language skills, albeit laziness or otherwise, who are we to judge ?

If I wrote how I speak no one would answer me. Also, a man I corresponded with online for ages,who was literate; coherent; humorous and intelligent sounding was a bumbling wreck when I met him. He could barely string a sentence together.

Im meeting someone soon who has fun with words shall we say, but I understand exactly what he means and it hasnt put me off. He makes me smile, cheers me up when I speak to him, thats enough for me
