why do some dog walkers turn into dog shitters during the dark winter months? why do some think it's acceptable to not bother picking up their pets turds when out for their pre-work walkies. stepping in this mess on the way out in the morning can ruin your day.

We have two dogs. They are both female. We ALWAYS pick up after them.

Three times now we have been told off by people who thought we didn't pick up after them simply because they didn't realize female dogs squat when they pee. I asked them how I am supposed to pick up piss with a plastic bag?

On another occasion we had to have the police called because someone actually threatened us because they didn't like us walking our dogs on their street (apparently because too many dogs shit on their street).

I think every dog owner has a responsibility to pick up after their dog, but I must say that the UK is a bit crowded with overzealous dog-shitter police...or at least Leeds is

Actually both of my dogs toilet to command and very rarely out in the street. Good training stops a lot of problems. I clean up after my dog and by the letter of the law I do not have too

They make flashlights that attach to dog leashes. It's easier than carrying a separate one

My Labrador will only shit in a certain spot in the garden, you can walk him for two hours and he won't poo but as soon as you get home he go straight to the back door, to his spot and poos

It's quite handy

Guide dogs are taught to 'go busy' on command. Our gdp has a special area to go to the toilet in. So in guide dogs shouldn't need to go when out working. I've always picked up after the dogs and even carry water to wah away waste that can't be picked up

Not sure about that down this way - must be a lot of dominant cats judging by the mess!

I don't think there's been as much of a problem here with dog mess recently, but there are a few out of the way routes where people tend to think "no-one's watching, so won't pick up"

I can answer that, years ago most people would rush out to collect it to put on their rhubarb, personally I prefer ice cream. It is a source of fertilizer, so people used to collect it for their gardens.

Why is there so much catshit in the borders of my garden then? isnt horse poo mostly just chewed up grass - it disintegrates fast esp in wet weather and people will pick up for gardens etc - - meat eating animals poo is way more obnoxious

Dog owners should 100% pick up after their dogs. But there was a time when no one expected them to. Similarly, even though cat owners are not currently expected to pic up after their cats at the moment, I believe they should. For the same reason as dog owners.

Not all cats bury their shit. Where I live, there aren't many places to bury it anyway.

Not all cats bury their shit. Where I live, there aren't many places to bury it anyway.

If my cat shit on a pavement I would pick it up. They don't though. But there is a difference in law between the responsibilities of cat owners and dog owners, whether you agree with it or not.

There is no cat shit lying about where I live, probably because there is so much dog shit from lazy owners who think because they're out at 6am and no one can see them, they don't have to do it.

Dog owners should 100% pick up after their dogs. But there was a time when no one expected them to. Similarly, even though cat owners are not currently expected to pic up after their cats at the moment, I believe they should. For the same reason as dog owners.

Not all cats bury their shit. Where I live, there aren't many places to bury it anyway.

I agree. The law is different. And as I said already, I think it should change. And dog owners should pick up after their dogs.

I am a dog owner and I'd like to think a responsible one.

But I agree about the dark mornings and nights. I do gardening for a living which includes mowing grass. When cutting around blocks of flats, front gardens etc, it is always noticeable the increase.

On another point cats do crap in grass, on paving etc too. All year round. To me this is as bad as dogs, if not worse with the quantity. And nothing worse than tidying a border to find you have put your fingers in a pile of cat shit!

And I also feel that horses should be cleared up after. Nothing worse than driving through a fresh mountain! While I do realise there is no animal matter in it, unlike cat or dog, it still stinks!

on my bike ride home on the track at the back of a council estate some dirty fucker has emptied a wheeliebin full of dogshit! I could still smell it when I got home phoned council to get it removed!

Horse plop should be done in the kurb to annoy all the cyclists in my area!!! oh yeah that's right, they don't cycle in the kurb, they cycle in the middle of the road, 2 or 3 abreast!!!

When my daughter was small she fell into a pile of dog crap right near a poo bin!! It's disgusting. I used to jog around an area I used to live in, most of it was off road paths that only locals used, it disgusted me that they allowed their dogs to foul there day in day out. Such a beautiful place ruined by the very people who lived there.

As for cats, my last 2 cats have been indoor cats and always used litter trays so no problem to my neighbours. My mums two cats go out but come in to use the litter tray!!!
