Old man's shape.

Get an XKR. Actually, don't - they're all automatics and that's no fun.

Get something good and fun. I fancy a Mustang, but Ford aren't building enough for it to be a success, so it'll have sold out before I get near to it.

Erm...its just a Ford Mondeo with a Jag badge.

You want a Jag...get a proper one like Xj6/8 from the X300 range.

Or a series III....that is a proper Jag.

I had a GT350 for 3 weeks the lat time I was over there (wanted the 500 but couldn't justify the extra money). Great car on the usr roads but my neighbour has one and they're shocking on our roads.

They're great on long straight roads. Show them a bend or a little water and they get a wee bit lively. The leaf springs and live rear axle just can't cope. I think the newer ones have proper independent suspension though. That should be a vast improvement.

I have two mates who bought x types in their late twenties. One to replace a toyota supra which he crashed, so wanted something a little more sedate and one to replace an RX 8 cos he needed a family car (his was the estate version). I loved both cars and none of us took the piss too much for driving Old Man's Cars.

I have an X Type 2L diesel sport with cream leathar and black gloss dash.

43mppg. £40 road tax

mine is the 2.1l petrol sports 27 mpg £260 a year road tax lol"

I'd be happy with that mpg. Try 22mpg on a motorway and 13 round the town.

"I have two mates who bought x types in their late twenties. One to replace a toyota supra which he crashed, so wanted something a little more sedate and one to replace an RX 8 cos he needed a family car (his was the estate version). I loved both cars and none of us took the piss too much for driving Old Man's Cars."

that's good to know lol

I don't think cars are a way to help profile yourself in general. People here want to know the person appropriately for their needs and to appreciate reliability and compatibility.

As you can see many of us don't care about cars, except that you'd travel to a meet, if agreed and turn up.

Sometimes if you're flogging a dead horse it's wise to know when to stop. Live and accessorise your personal life as you see fit and don't do it according to the whims of others.

I currently have the XF 3.0 Diesel. It's the nicest car I've ever driven. Is grippy and good on country roads, easily does over 100 mph (on German motorways) and has an average MPG of 40. I'm hoping to get another one next year. Absolutely love it.

"

most cars are made on the same chassis of Ford's and vauxhalls but its the rest of the interior and the body and engine that make a car good or not lol"

I have to disagree on this one, I have a 2.5 litre petrol BMW, the engine is nice (love the sound of a straight 6), the interior is comfortable (full leather) but its the E46 chassis which makes it a pleasure to drive

Get an XKR. Actually, don't - they're all automatics and that's no fun.

Get something good and fun. I fancy a Mustang, but Ford aren't building enough for it to be a success, so it'll have sold out before I get near to it.

What a shame. It would be nice to be able to pop your clutch while dropping down your gearbox...

Not really an old man's car, more of a 'sensible' man's car. An old man's car is a Rover 75. Or any Rover.

You could move up a notch with an XKR?

Ignore the digs about Jags being an old man's car, they are just envious of your style

X-Type 2.0DSE (Pacific Blue with cream leather and walnut dash) for commuting

S-Type 3.0SE (Mistral Blue with cream leather and walnut dash) for my Days off/special occasions

one of the best looking cars on the road. cheap parts (mondeo I payed 800 for an immaculate xtype with 62000 proper miles on. sold it for 850 25000 later.

sure you could section someone for paying twenty bags for a mondeo on this evidence.

Think I'd just turned 30 when I bought my Jag. Did have a comment from a couple of friends who soon shut up when they sat in the comfort of the leather and plush carpeting inside......they quickly found their voice again when I booted the loud pedal on the 4L engine and squashed them back in the said seats.

Would love another (xj6 supercharger next time) but it's not practical with my mileage- although I seem to keep looking for a Porsche Boxter in need of a little TLC so I can have a play round with that- Matt black paint, red leather interior and I'm sure there's room for a little supercharger in that too

not as bad as a Volvo but if you do look at drivers of Jaguars they are generally men of a certain age with grey hair!

"not as bad as a Volvo "

You should take an R Design or an old T5 out for a spin, fantastic gear ratios, engine mapping and suspension balance- a hoot to drive and you can sport the estate version round a quiet country lane like a rally car- they even ran the V70 T5 in the BTCC one year. The 2.4L pulls about 200bhp, kind of shocks the boy racers if you've de-badged it and they think they can easily nip past the big old wardrobe on wheels
