"No one has offered us gifts but I did take a cake to a meet... Is that a no no then? " I dunno, I did the same. Seems polite when they're hosting.

"No one has offered us gifts but I did take a cake to a meet... Is that a no no then? " You'd take cake to a friend's house, to work, to a member of the family, etc, without expecting reciprocation. I think that a decent benchmark as to what is a thoughtful gift and what is payment.

"but when it comes to sex I want (need, actually) the lady to enjoy herself." I'm sure I would

"Surely if it's in exchange for something it's payment not a gift A gift is given freely with no expectations. If someone chooses to give me a gift well that's lovely, but it won't alter my intentions." You mean that Whoopee cushion I gave you hasn't entitled me to first dibs on any cake going?

"I have posted a status saying anyone want to take me to the cinema. I hadn't thought of it as asking for gifts, just an option for a social " That's how I'd see it too, an would apply that to the comedian, in theory.

I just thought as we were being welcomed to their home it's only polite to take something and I bake so that's what people get.

I think the difference for me is asking someone else to pay for your time and company? It's different when you are dating and a you're asked out, while I always offers to pay my own way I didn't argue when he refused to accept. He did ask me out after all. But as this is a sex site my worry would be asking for something in return for your company could come with expectations of return? Just a theory, don't want to offend anyone

For me there's a difference in asking to be taken and asking for someone to accompany you. Given the nature of the site it could be interpreted as an invitation to more than a social.

I take your point, but we've both seen the English language mangled badly enough on here for either option to actually mean the other... Personally I wouldn't go see a comedian for a social - how am I supposed to laugh them into bed with a professional doing better material??? But a music gig, or even theatre - why not?

As I've said before though, I'm a cynical old bag and experience has taught me to be a bit careful......not all men are as nice as you.
