Ryanair carried 9.55 million passengers in September, more than a million more than the same period last year and with a load factor of 94%. This year to September they have carried 97.3 million passengers.

Ryanair provide a reliable and cost effective service for the whole of Europe. Well done Mr O'Leary and thank you for taking the bullshit out of flying and getting us to Spain cheaper than taking the train to London.

Not at all. We fly four or five times a year with Ryanair and I was just booking some flights for January and read their news item.

I think we all take for granted just how cheap their flights are and how their route map has made travel in Europe so simple and affordable.

When flying you need to get from A to B and thats all - its a means to an end.

Ryanair just do it cheaper. Been on a few weekends with just carryon and always been excellent.

Just on an operational front - getting a Load Factor that high deserves a lot of credit.

I wanted to fly down to Cape D`Age which Ryan Air does. Trouble is they didn`t fly there at all from my nearest airport (Bournemouth) and only flew Fridays or Sundays from the next closest (Bristol). The flight wouldn`t have been amongst Ryan Air`s cheapest flights and by the time I`d factored in the extra costs of getting to and from Bristol Airport, transfers down from the airport to Adge and either having to find accommodation for extra days of holiday or reduced days at Adge it was cheaper to travel down by Eurostar from London! And I would also have to find extra accommodation because the flights arrived at Adge after the gate offices would have close for the day!

Ryan Air is no doubt great if you are lucky enough to have your departure and arrival points nearby but otherwise they`re as dear as everyone else!

Carry on bagage, no seat requirement, take your own food & yes I agree they probably come out the cheapest.

Want a bit more and they're comparative to others.

Then, I accidentally discovered an even worse airline. Spirit Air in the USA charged me $50 for my carry on handbag. As well as having surly cabin staff.

If you're in the USA, try JetBlue. They manage to be both inexpensive and offer good service.

I am off on a weeks holiday and taking the allocated 10kg hand luggage and buying toiletries and a towel out there as I refuse to pay £50 for 15kg hold luggage!!!!

A return trip on the bus where I live in ireland is €16.85 to city centre bout 50 mins

I got a flight to Edinburgh return for €26 return. But booked ages ago. U just have to plan ahead. What more could any one want

Airline like Ryanair have made travelling much much more affordable but u do have to do a bit of homework

yep... spirit are naff....

i actually do like jetblue and southwest......

its a shame because the southwest model was the one that ryanair based itself on... well... without the customer service!

They fly to Beziers - that is on the doorstep of Cap d'Agde.

They fly to Las Palmas, Malaga, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

Aside from Amsterdam for which we use Squeezy Jet, those airports are where we fly mostly to and all are available from Manchester.

In the late 1980's / early 1990's, a return charter flight Manchester to the Canaries was around £170. That is the same price we pay now with Ryanair with checked bags, priority boarding, seats etc etc. For those who use carry on only and dont bother with extra's - it is truly bargain travel.

They must be doing something right with 12% year on year increase in passenger numbers.

Also if the issues that you raise were such a problem to so many people then they would surely not travel? The fact that people are flying in ever greater numbers suggests that it is not really an issue to most.

Give me BA anyday in Europe. Never been on Ryanair but rate Easyjet never had a bad experience with them.

It's widely known that some of the airlines are liberal with distance from cities so as long you read the small print you can't go that wrong.

My mother and father booked a flight with them in April to France the bloody French air traffic control had a strike or in French a couple of days off. And the said flight was cancelled, Ryan air agreed to refund the price of the flights which was jolly good of them. The money they paid to pre book the seats and the credit card charges on the other hand wasn't refunded and they were £80 out of pocket. Robbing bastards!

Just checked! It`s between 42 and 49 minutes by direct train from Prestwick airport to Glasgow Central, depending on which train you get. Not a bad deal ataround a tenner per person for a one way ticket.

And to the person who said they fly to Bezires, the closest airport to Cape D`Adge, yes, that`s right, but no bloody good if Bristol is your closest point in this country and your holiday is Saturday to Saturday because they don`t bloody well fly there on Saturdays! Or at least they didn`t this year!

I must admit that after a shaky start they have got quite good at paying out the EU compensation for late flights.

Just last week they admitted a claim for 800 euros within 48 hours of us claiming. That's despite sending us an email the day after the flight claiming it was 'exceptional circumstances' and they weren't liable. We put in a claim anyway but I wonder how many people they mugged off?

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I flew to Venice and back from Rome with them and they were fine. I especially like the two items of carry on, as I don't have to cram my handbag into my cabin bag like I have to on Easyjet. And EasyJet are late many more times than Ryan Air.

Shame the owner is a dick though.

They're no different to cruise lines in that respect...Med cruises always seem to stop in 'Rome' can't recall much of a port area on my trips to the eternal city.

Think they go to Civitecchia which is about 45 minutes train ride away. Back to Ryanair , used them for a flight to Cork a few years back, it was like a bus ride. Was blowing a hurricane on the return and raining horizontally , and I got soaked on the steps in the pouring rain as they're too tight to use the airbridges.

they were looking at using providence for "boston".... for new york word is they are looking at using macarthur airport on long island... 100km out and a 2hr train ride from NYC

It's not Ryanair who name the airport. We have many examples here. London Southend airport , London Oxford airport. The little provisional airports want a big city name to generate traffic.

Have been using Ryanair for years and I have only been delayed once. Fantastic service at a fantastic price.

Loathe the cheap airlines with a vengeance. But then I normally travel with a 20kg toolbox, suitcase and a heavy laptop bag in the cabin. By the time the extras get added on I'm usually better using BA.

I hear what you are saying, what I mean is that your accomodation does not have to be booked Saturday to Saturday. If your scheduled work holidays can only be Saturday to Saturday then there is nothing you can do about that.

I can tell you that next year Ryanair are flying Saturday to Saturday Manchester - Beziers. Before they started flying from Manchester we drove down to Bristol Airport (via Chameleons!) from Manchester and it was not that bad.
