I don't think that's fair!

If you put up a thread on an open forum people will respond how they wish. I've seen threads "spoilt" by love ins, people just get over it! This is a depressing thread and someone living alone may feel like topping themself this time of year!

I live with my adult daughters so not alone, however I don't have a man in my life and to be honest it's the practical things I miss. Few weeks ago, had the flu, could hardly move. Had to use the loo but hardly had the strength to get up. Some how the ballcock broke when I flushed the loo flooding the bathroom! A man about the house was needed then.

When I was married my husband would meet me from work if it was snowing and hold my hand to stop me from falling: I don't venture out in it as no one to hold my hand!

As we're still close he's done all my West Indian shopping for me, foods Sainsbury's don't stock: he does every year, did all through our marriage as I still can't tell a plantain from a banana!

I've been there too, in fact i'm still off work with depression but slowly i'm coming out of it. Reading the forums usually cheers me up but not today! I'm lucky I've got my daughter and two baby grandchildren who I love dearly and despite not having a partner at least I've got them to put a smile on my face. If it weren't for them I would not be here I don't think.

Right back to smile mode now, it's almost christmas and time for fun!

"so as we are all posting on this.

Last Christmas was pretty much as near to perfect that I have gotten. It was our son's 1st Christmas, my 13y/o daughter opted to be with us too so she could share our lad's 1st one, and my parents and brother travelled up from the south to be with us too. Siren's family also came over on Xmas Day and I cooked for 10 people (I love cooking anytime of the year but I especially enjoy cooking the Xmas dinner, all the trimmings, prep work, getting stuff done a couple of days before etc) - I love all that stuff - and to top it all, Siren bought me a £100 bottle of Remy Martin XO brandy, which was abso-blimmin-lovely!!

Plus, on Xmas Eve we all went to Beamish for an Edwardian Christmas, where there was a real Xmas tree in the town square with a real robin flying in and out of it, and it snowed... on Xmas Eve!

If that's not a perfect Christmas I don't what is.

Sometimes I think too much emphasis is put on Christmas, the festive season? Spend spend spend on presents, that end up broken or in the raffle cos they were unappreciated or unwanted.

Prepare for hours a gut busting meal for dozens of people you hardly see from one year to the next, all the while trying to keep up with St. Delia telling you how 'stress-free' it could be if you follow her lead.

Then after you have shopped, spent, cooked, cleared up, recycled wrappings, and eventually sank into a chair with a sherry, think hard, what is it all about?

Christmas is the season of good will, it is about spiritual well-being, it is love for fellow man. All this can be given and received daily without expense ostentatiousness and falsity when you read through the forums.

I have seen support, tears and love.

We are a community here like it or not, good bad and indifferent, just as in real life.

So whether I am with others on Christmas day or alone in person, but with forum friends, then I'll feel content and warm inside.

The perfect Christmas for me is knowing I'm here, I make a difference to at least one person in my life and knowing there are others who make a difference in mine.

Peace and love everyone. xxxx

"so as we are all posting on this.

Ooooh over the years I've had some wonderful Christmas'. My daughter's first Christmas, the first time we bought a tree for the kids to decorate, all the family sitting around the table, my parents who are no longer with us, all my sisters, some of whom I know longer speak to.

For me being happy, content and surrounded by family is what makes Christmas, the getting up early and watching the little ones open their presents and their innocents in still believing in Santa.

Even now, having my girls around is what makes Christmas for me, and I'm looking forward to Friday when they are all under the same roof!!!

no perfect in this life and if you expect it you are setting yourself up for disappointment. See the best in what you have and make the most out of that.

Hope you all have a festive season of safety and contentment. Remember there are many who won't.

This time of year can be a bummer if you live alone that's why I'm going away after Xmas and being snowed in for days ain't helped either so I did feel pissed off living alone then but having said that I do enjoy my own space, guess I just miss a cuddle occasionally lol
