Trying to pack light as using the bus and train.

Can't decide what to take.

One night stay and travel back later

I can't help you. I'm atrocious at packing light! I generally take the car though so it doesn't really matter too much.

I have managed an overnighter with clean knickers, a toothbrush and my security blanket though!

That's me too... just in case things... I'm not going to wear five pairs of shoes in three days but I take them just in case!

I don't like not having a choice of clothes, so will tend to overpack.

I am very good at packing though, so will still end up with a reasonably small case.

I always travel light as when flying to see my family, its extra if you put any baggage into he hold, so have become an expert at packing everything into cabin size bag ...

I have an overnight bag with essentials always packed, ready. Toiletry bag, travel hairdryer, mini straighters, a hairbrush.

All I need to add is clothes and undies. 2 pairs of knickers and a dress normally suits just fine. Otherwise jeans and a jumper.

And voila, no heavy bag. But then, I do sleep naked.
