There's been a thread on this day for at least the last five years and as noone else has put one up yet thought I would.

As there has been a lot of mental health threads of recent I shall just leave it there, but if you know anyone who is suffering family or friends please try and be supportive and be there for them as much as you can

Excellent thread. Thank you Diamondsmiles, these threads of yours are always incredibly helpful.

While I'm here I may as well ask if anyone has any experience, positive or negative, of agomelatine? Trade name Valdoxan.

I'm sure someone will be able to help, there is a lot of new drugs on the market the last few years that I have no knowledge off, all my medication is old drugs, but as they seem to have got the combination right they won't change mine.

I do have an appointment with a mental health facilitater this week, I've never seen one before, its a new system they are using here and they will be the half way person .

There is all new changes coming in next April, Derby, hull and a couple of other authorities have already implemented them, it won't really affect me, but will for new people, from what I know once you get your diagnosis you will be referred to the person best to deal with you instead of seeing a standard psychiatrist or whoever will be your key worker, you will see someone for your individual needs, eg eating disorder specialists

It took 5 years to get my doses right and again they wont change mine. I have eplim, propanalol and quitiapene. If anyone ever needs a chat about anything, I am always about.

I'm on epilim as well (sodium valporate) they tried to change my brand and I was violently sick on all the others, I actually have mine in powder form as I have to take so many a day and they are a pain to take.

How do you get on with quitiapene? I refused to take it after a month as I gained two stone, and ate myself out of house and home

Woof Woof, even the Black Dog supports such a brilliant thread....Seriously though as someone that has supported a mental ill health survivor for the last 15 years, and is also training to become a registered appropriate adult(***FAB?) Hmmm? Diamonds timely reminder of this is great. Thanks for posting Karen.

there is lots more for family and friends now, my mum is my saviour and I've always had 100% support from her but she has been on a couple of courses now and also people that work in certain public sector jobs have the opportunity to go on courses as well, so they have a better understanding on dealing with the public with mental health problems

As I say to anyone who asks, these companies have to publish the findings of any tests in the registration dossier's which usually covers how the chemicals interact with other chemicals and potential side effects. Hope this helps, and hope you get back on your feet lovely one

Thank you diamondsmiles for posting this on today of all days. I'm still reeling from some mentally disturbing imagery I endured yesterday. Pretty annoyed and emailed a few people to complain so is all under control. Need to get in contact with a few friends and see how they're doing because things have been tough for them too lately. I was supposed to be watching out for them and checking their progress a while back, but I've been remiss in enquiring since they finished their courses in emotional management. Cheers for reminding me.

Hope everyone has a good day today. Big hugs for everyone

What I find fantastic is my friend cannot open up in person, and her team support her online, which as helped her massively, they can't be faulted plus it helps she reached out to us (I say us, my ex is with her now and yes she's still my best friend), she may not discuss it with us much (well she does him but again only by message but it's HER way)

Chams or Socials

5 years ago my aunt committed suicide. She was only 3 years older than me & had 3 children. We had to constantly fight to get her help and whatever we did was never enough.

This was the beginning of my downward spiral & my rock bottom came with the very sudden end of my marriage 2 years later.

I'm a lucky one, I was given the help & support I needed through my GP & work but I feel for those who don't get the help they need & deserve x

Luckily my own mental health issues haven't got to that stage, I'm very good at reaching out and although we may have split up and moved on my ex was a great support to me (even though he was half the problem for my mental state!) x

you know what I find about having mental health issues, the amazing friends you have, apart from what I just said about my ex husband none of my friends have ever turned there back and its been bloody difficult at times, but I'm blessed with my family, my partner and my friends and that is something I'm internally grateful for

Thank you for a good forum thread diamond, there seems to be quite a few folk with some mh issues here. My wife uses swinging/bdsm as a way of coping with the ups & downs of bi-polar,is anyone else like that?. I'm still trying to understand it all, it makes a lot of sense though as to how she has been.

She had to give up work, employer was bullying.

Has anyone had any joy claming benifits when you cant work....thanks for any help,(him)

your best to go to the citizens advice bureau, there is the means tested EMA ( I think it's called) and then there is pip and I don't think that's means tested but obviously you have to fit the criteria, but citizens advice are very good

I have learnt who my real friends are for sure coz the worst part of bipolar is the aftermath when in episodes of mania I call it the sorry syndrome coz that's all I seem to say n as I often self medicate with alcohol when manic I am often called an alki arse hole when I am episoding or even when I am actually sober coz I don't wear a badge saying manic at the moment please forgive my random behaviour

That is so sad, and not that rare unfortunately, there is still a lot to understand concerning mental health, I don't feel anyone is beyond help, just beyond the current help available to them. The thing people have most trouble understanding about mental health problems, is that they don't understand.

It's become very difficult since ATOS were put in charge, they seem to reject most cases, and concentrate on physical ability, speak to your Doctor and get in touch with Mind.

Hope this factsheet is of help to you.

Still a lot of stigma and misunderstanding regarding mental health issues. People need to realise that it is a genuine illness and is just as serious as other diseases such as cancer.

I live in Worcestershire area.

Mental health here is no good.

I got to a stage where i felt i had no choice left, i had attempted suicide many times but as im shit at everything i couldnt even do that right.

Anyway crying in the Drs which by the way took a month to get an appointment.

Begged for help as i was desperate, he looked and saw meds have never helped me so referred me to a specialist.

3 months to receive a letter telling me what psychologists are and to call this number to be put on a waiting list.

Also stated if i dont call within 2 weeks, i would need to go back to get a referred again. My letter arrived the week of Christmas, it was hard enough to even pick up the phone but i tried 6xs and no answer, left messages, never heard back.

Then on top of that i find out the waiting list is a min 18months.

For someone who is desperate and trying to not to end it, can you really wait 2yrs to see a person.

Can see why so many in my local area have jumped off bridges or threatened to, at least those who do it publicly get the help quicker.

My best friend suffered the same as me and we had his funeral yesterday after he hung himself, he couldnt get the help either.

Just remember you're not alone there's a million people who've been in your place, not your situation but similar, it's terrifying to talk about it but if you can surmount that hurdle even with a total group of strangers on the Internet you can then talk and belive me it gets a thousand times easier with every time you talk.

An Internet forum I posted on when I was in my darkest hour is the place that saved my life (literally in one case when a member turned up at my door on a. Night sintered to end it and took me to hospital)

I know when you're there its almost impossible to see the light but when you talk it will make things easier, it's like someone offering a hand to carry the bag you don't always realise how much you need it till they take hold x

"There's been a thread on this day for at least the last five years and as noone else has put one up yet thought I would.

As there has been a lot of mental health threads of recent I shall just leave it there, but if you know anyone who is suffering family or friends please try and be supportive and be there for them as much as you can

An excellent thread this is an important issue that effects one in three of us.

Having been the one in three I understand the stigma that can be attached to this by many who ignore through ignorance or fear .

People suffer in silence, asking for help is the bravest thing some one can ever do .

recently been diagnosed with ptsd and I agree ask for help I have its nothing to be ashamed of

That was a wonderful brave thing todo I wish you all the best in the world the worse thing I'm fighting is my mind I just want to get back to what I was before the incident and back to enjoying the job "

Have you heard of a thing called mindfulness, its really helped me become.the happy guy I am.now

I was diagnosed with PTSD 15 years ago, and because of the diagnosis I lost my job. I hope things are better these days for you.

Huddersfield

Effects a massive number of people in one form or another. One in four will seek professional help at some point. One in a hundred suffer with Schizophrenia, which is completely indiscriminate in its misery.

Despite this services are being ripped apart with cut after cut, staff morale is at rock bottom none of whom do it for the money. 6% less budget year on year for 5 years, private sector cherry picking services and endless tiers of bean counters interfering in care decisions.

Staff had no pay rise for 6 years, all makes for grim reading I'm afraid but anyone suffering from these awful conditions remember you're not alone there are some excellent services out there, you just might have to push your GP harder.

I hope that all who suffer with mental health problems get the help they deserve and there is better understanding for all.

These threads highlight the amount of people with mental health problems on this site, just like any cross section of society. I'll admit to being concerned as to whether people here are swingers who enjoy the pastime of recreational sex as a hobby rather than being in a mania cycle and experiencing hypersexuality. I worry about vulnerability and the ability to not take risks which could be dangerous. This post is meant with no offence to anyone with mental health issues.

"

now I'm going to agree with you about the hypersexuality, but first I will say hypersexuality can be an illness on its own without any other mental illness being diagnosed and also not everyone with a mental illness has hypersexuality, there are people on here that profess to be sex addicts and I'm not denying some are but its nowhere near as many that actually say it.

I've experienced hypersexuality, I wasn't on any swinging sites at the time, it was before I had access to the internet, I'm ashamed to say some of the things I did, but I took enormous dangerous risks, IF I had been on a swinging site I'm convinced I wouldn't have put myself in such dangerous situations, I would of gone to clubs, had meets from here and although I would probably had at least three meets a day there would be more chance of finding out the guys via here than how I was doing it, so I think hypersexuality is dangerous its not that common on here

I just wanted to say something I always try and keep in my mind.

When you hit rock bottom and life can not get any worse there is only one way to go and that's back up.

There are many online help sites. The Big White Wall is one. Many health authorities recommend it.

Also, as has been said , Mindfulness. It helps to teach you to concentrate and move forward. Definitely recommended

the winterbourne view hospital featured on panorama where the adults were being abused.. the CQC have finished the reports and now looking at other hospitals including my daughters to look into their treatment ..meds..inexperienced staff ... and why patients are still in hospital after years

they agree there are not enough hospitals meaning loved ones have no choice about being moved far away

I hope good comes from this I know there have been sackings in one hospital

I work in mental health and have a duty to promote positivity to address the stigma - many people recover from acute episodes and are reluctant to be open for fear of judgements from others.

Each and every one of us will struggle psychologically at ome point in our lives (if you are living life to the full there will be times and experiences put you on your arse.

Please, we all hve things in our life that make us smile, let's not forget that.

Some people live with chronic mental illness and can rarely access what we all take for granted.

For those with depression, of over 20 years of therapy and treatments, can't recommended CAT (Cognitive Analytic Therapy) highly enough.

It's rewired my brain and helps with daily coping like nothing else. Took a long time to get on the list but so worth it.

Stay strong y'all

I'm open minded I was big enough to ask for extra help as I'd had 9 therapy sessions before Re starting work but found it hard after returning to work as the incident happened at work
