Luggage Snob

Are you one? Do you absolutely have to travel with a carefully hand crafted leather LV or Dunhill case? Or does a no name beat up plastic trolley bag suffice to transport your smalls?

I just saw a woman have a kitten when she was handed her LV case that had a hint of a scratch on it the uproar in reception!!!

I a couple of times a month - I'm a Samsonite man! If it breaks or a wheel falls off (not often), they send me new wheels or a new case! Last month US Airways managed to lose two wheels!

There's something about LV luggage that just irritates me - it's irrational, but then so am I!

Easter just around the corner!

Why would someone spend a fortune on luggage when they know full well it's going to be thrown around and get battered in the process. More fool them!

I'd save the LV for my Hand Baggage

I always thought the point of a suitcase was to protect the contents, and in doing so will bear the brunt of the hard knocks. I think if your going to get upset about a scratched suitcasr, you need to put it inside another one. Then put that inside another....

I always use soft luggage. It weighs less, airlines like it,its less likely to be damaged. Whats the point in paying a fortune for luggage thats just a brand and made cheaply in some eastern factory for coppers then sold to some sucker for a small fortune just because it has a name and perceived status attached?

Mrsdpt has a couple of LV handbags which are both over 20 years old, they're still in awesome condition so they are definitely made well.

Wouldn't buy a LV suitcase though for the exact reason they get thrown about and secondly they are over £2000 that's a lot of money to be thrown around like suitcases are

Whoah!!!!

Luggage snobs? Really? People spend stupid money on cases that get thrown about by baggage handlers?

My gob is smacked.

Battered old case here! It's done a few miles and looks like it! A case is for functionality not a fashion statement!

Louis Vuitton bags aren't made of leather- they're canvas with a plastic coating. The only leather is the trim. This only applies to the monogram free advertising stuff though.

I use a huge expandable holdall I bought in NYC for 12 dollars. If there's no weight restriction. Otherwise I use a samsonite but it's soft not hard. The hard ones are too heavy!

Usually the luggage I've seen only regularly varies on the class of flight. I respect people's ability to choose for mega cheap luggage or mega expensive, whatever they view as those price ranges. I'm a luggage snob in the sense that I want good quality luggage, which is rarely the cheapest. But labels wise, I don't mind.

Yup, the baggage handlers take 2 steps back and throw them further

Any cheap nondescript case for us, nobody ties to pinch average luggage when there is LV etc. available.

Titz Towers, North Notts

The last time I went away I just had a Bergen with all my stuff in. Obviously that was a drab holiday. If it had been glam, then I would have required a team of porters

I had to google 'LV'

Then I had to google 'Louis Vuitton'

Probably says all you need to hear.

Mr ddc

Ps. My 26 yr-old cheap cases have never been 'lost'. I've always thought it's the best form of security!

Absolutely I'm a label snob with an odd mixture of Givi, Karrimor SF and Samsonite. It very much depends on what I'm doing but it's always fully researched and purchased for functionality and reliability rather than the specific branding.

If you want a laugh go and watch some of what comes around on the reclaim belts at certain long-haul destinations. Some of my favourites I've come across were the 1 m3 rubble sacks of clothes and a fridge freezer with the one of the doors hanging open and stuffed with other kitchen electrical goods.
