My cat gets in the bath every time I go into the bathroom and sits under the tap waiting for me to turn it on.

She seems to like it. I'll pass though.

Should be fine, they are all fed from the same cold water pipe coming into your house.

That said, the water in the toilet cistern is also drinking water, but I wouldn't try that lol

Depends if it is supplied by a rising main or from a loft storeage tank. In the case of the later in some very old properties it could have god knows what in.

I always thought it wasn't drinking water in the bathroom ?

Now I think about it though. It is safe for brushing teeth.

I'm confused. Still wouldn't drink it regardless.

Same water goes to your kitchen tap as your bath, basin, toilet etc.

Only time you'll have a separate independent water feed pipe is to an ascending spray bidet. Who would want to take a chance on a double check value to protect your water supply from a bidet

Cold water (from any tap) is usually very clean. Hot water is the one to worry about, especially if you have an open tank.

As long as it's mains fed (which is usually the case) you're fine.

A good indicator you can do is, place the heel of your hand palm side up, over the tap opening and create a seal, then turn the tap on.

If it squirts everywhere, it's almost always mains fed, if there's no pressure, it's fed from a cold water storage tank which you'll usually have in your loft.

Not always... in older houses the cold feed to a bathroom can be from a tanked supply, (which you don't want to be drinking).

Hence, the person above saying it tastes different/funny.

As I understand it even in old houses the cold water tank feeds the cistern which feeds the hot water supply, the cold feed throughout the house is from the mains which is why I was told not to drink from hot tap.

If you have a combi-boiler there's is no tank at all and all water is direct off the mains.

In short drink it it will be fine

I suppose it depends who has been in your bath (since you bought the house and before you bought the house who were the previous occupants?)

Could they have been playing with the bath taps with their feet or toes while having a bath and do you want your mouth to go there?

"The cold water tap in bathroom is most likely to be supplied from storage tank in attic, so is no suitable for drinking."

Nope. All cold taps tend to be supplied direct from the mains feed at mains pressure (or regulated). The header tank in the loft was used to supply the hot water tank only, though they've now pretty much all been replaced with combis.

Ergo, drinking from the bathroom cold tap is no different from drinking from the kitchen one.

Not necessarily true.

The cold supply could be tank fed still. Its unlikely though.

erm no,most houses with loft space, still have either the sink/toilet or toilet/bath fed by a tank, unless you own a new build from the last 15 years or so...Simply because it was used has a backup.if the mains water stopped working,so you still had water to flush the toilet and to boil for washing/drinking.... Easy test if your cold supply stops by placing the palm of your hand over the tap,its tank fed

As long as it's standard plumbing it's all coming from the same mains supply. Our water is pretty good aquifer supply, albeit sewage works processed a few times. If you lived without mains water, such as families that walk miles to wells etc every day, you'd be so happy with that bathroom tap supply.

Some bathrooms a fed from a cold water tank in the loft so the water could be standing there a little while plus if not properly covered dust, bugs etc may contaminate it. If you have a sealed system in your home then all the taps should be fed from the cold water main which is no different from drinking from your kitchen tap.

not many houses have stored water, problem is legionella, which is more active around 20centigrade, as the water is static it is active breeding ground, stored water for bathroom usually old buildings, where originally lead pipes not much water pressure, as one pipe came off street main and fed a few houses, where as now most have own supply

"The cold water tap in bathroom is most likely to be supplied from storage tank in attic, so is no suitable for drinking."

Only if you have a really old heating system. Most are fed directly from the mains water. If I remember correctly, there used to be a Lead Rod in the old cold water storage tank, to help reduce corrosion.

If you turn the water off at the stopcock, and the bathroom tap stops working then you know it is mains fed and therefore safe to drink!

yes it comes into house at same point but depending on what system you have as to how it's distributed ,a gravity fed sink and shower upstairs is fed by a tank in your loft and if lid gets off tank which they sometimes do then stuff gets in the tank dirt and Crap even pigeons

Up on them there hills

If you aren't able to drink from a bathroom tap, you shouldn't brush your teeth with that water.

If you don't believe me, travel to some countries who don't have clean water and use it to brush your teeth, the effect is most slimming.

If the bathroom cold water tap is directly fed from the rising main it's OK to drink from. If it is fed from a storage tank (usually in the loft) then I would not advise that you drink from it. Vermin have been known to get into water storage tanks, die and decay. Sorry for the boring answer but it is correct.
