I have a huge dilemma, a guy who Iv'e known for ages on here (who I really like) told me over coffee today that he caught herpes years ago. Said he had two outbreaks when he first caught it but nothing since. He said its HSV1, basically he caught it getting a blow job.

My head says block him but my heart says otherwise...any advice?

Why block if you like him, just don't shag him if concerned

If you like him a lot, use a condom.

This applies for any other person who can potentially have herpes considering that, from what i know, 99% of swingers do oral without and herpes is very contagious

Note that it is much more likely to get herpes if you are doing a blow job

You can't catch it if he messages you or if you're just friends. If you're concerned just keep things plutonic.

If he's HSV1 an enormous percentage of the population carry this. Everyone you know who has ever had a coldsore has that virus. Many of the people you've already met probably do. I do.

Yes but still use a condom as outbreaks could be very light after a lot of time he catched it (almost inexistent)

"If you like him a lot, use a condom."

Condoms don't prevent herpes, as a breakout can be anywhere on the pubic region. And the majority of us have a version of the herpes virus. Its just that only some of us actually have break outs.

OP, my ex had herpes and I've never had it. As long as you avoid break out times you'll be OK.

yiu can catch herpes when they don't have an out break so that information is incorrect as they can have skin shredding

You can catch it using a condom

Gum clinics don't test for it so unless you have symptoms for ask specifically for a blood test for it you may not know if you have it

This is your choice

Some people have herpes maybe have one outbreak or two and that's it , others may have if and Their immune system fight and then you have symptoms regularly which can be very painful .

Did a medical study on this particular std

According to the statistics that you believe or don't, a high proportion of the population (40 to 60 %) of the population are infected. Just don't have sex when any symptoms are showing. You are just as likely to get it from someone else. Scary, I know.

Not quite accurate. Herpes is dormant for most of the time, and in most people all the time. An active occurrence usually shows as a cold sore.

Sounds like if he has told you about it he's fairly responsible and knows himself well enough to know when he would be at risk of shedding.

I know when I've got a cold sore coming because there's a warning tingle feeling. I'd never meet anyone then or with an active coldsore, or for a little while afterwards.

But - if you are that worried then just stay mates. Blocking seems harsh since he's done you the courtesy of telling you about it.

You can have a blood test done at a private health clinic. It costs about £100 But then you will know if you already carry the virus. You may well have it.

Good on him for telling you though. Brave man and responsible too.

Gum clinics do not test for it because as others have said a high proportion of people have it. It is nothing to be ashamed of.

But as far as i know, the virus travels all over the body if you have it. Just because he says he caught it that way, doesn't mean he will get it on his penis.

If he has a blister on his penis it will probably hurt too much to play. He will be shedding virus if he has blisters or not. He may have blisters/ virus where the condom does not cover. Potentially ANY physical contact with his genitalia could transmit the virus. He could touch himself, then her. He could touch any part of her body and pass it on. It is a pernicious virus and so easy to spread. For more info check out herpes.org website

A huge amount of people have had coldsores in the past. I have had them, my sister has, my dad has, they arent necessarily sexually transmitted.

I don't play when I have one, but dont generally disclose because it is so common. Perhaps I am in the wrong here, but I think a lot of people might get the wrong idea.

It travels up the nerves from the site of infection and lies dormant between outbreaks. Outbreaks are usually in the same general area as the original one.

herpes HSV-2 is the one to watch out for

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

HSV-1 and HSV-2 basically the same virus with minor genetic differences. The virus infects and lives in nerves, once a nerve is infected virus is there or life. Virus lays dormant at the base of the nerve cell, until a flare up when it multiplies traveling down nerve to cause a skin eruption on surface. ( hence the tingle some people feel before sore appears). Infectious virus is then released at the site of the sore. Can never recur or some times be very frequent depends on individual.

Virus is very infectious and in case of oral herpes if your susceptible you probably already have it.

Apparently 87% of the infected population are unaware. Approximately 1 in 8 men and 1 in 4 women are carrieres of the virus some people have the dormant virus for 20 or 30 years and are unaware. Until they have an out break. Condoms don't always protect you. Skin shedding and contagion can happen at anytime even if there are no visible lesions active. It can be a slight irritation or full blown serious pain burning nerve involvement and absolute agony with long term post herpatic syndrome causing sciatic pain tenderness and electric shock pains.

It irresponsible to not inform prospective partners of the risk of your a known carrier. But full sex is possible if you are both aware of the risks consider others and take precautions

Simple solution,,,,,,,,,,if he has been decent enough to tell you then he's alright in my book,,,,,,,,,and if he has an outbreak don't play and I'm sure he would say when. Then when he is free from an outbreak, play. Pretty straight forward really. If you like the fella, this is not really a problem is it,,,,,,enjoy.

OP you have to go with your heart. As said if worried you can always seek medical advice or testing but just a heads up. All Doctors and most medical staff have come into contact with it ergo virtually all carry the virus. My mother has had it since before I was born so although never had an outbreak do I carry it - probably or my immune system is able to deal with it who knows. A condom is essential when swinging and only a high risk taker doesn't use one but you could be real safe and have nothing to do with this honest bloke, give up swinging and walk out your door and get hit with a bus. Life is one big risk. You only get one shot at it allegedly. Safe, happy fabbing x

Op please look on www.hva.org.uk

It will give you excellent information. They also do a leaflet that can be picked up at your local gum clinic.

At least he has the decency to be open with you about this. Talk to him about it, get informed, don't block him!

This site never ceases to amaze me. I really shouldn't be shocked but I am, by how ill informed some people are, but are still willing to spout out information that is totally incorrect

I give up! Get informed people before you offer advise!

This post is an interesting one for us. Education is the key to this virus before everyone is to react.

We hosted a party on time everyone at the party had a fantastic time everyone enjoyed themselves however unfortunately someone passed on Herpies all members at the party. The only person who never had it was mr big boobs.

Mrs started showing signs in a couple of days we where mortified and really freaking out. We Where extremely uneducated on the virus. Told everyone at the party plus previous play mates and to this day we have no idea who braught it to party.

The response we got made us feel even worse like dirt most reacted as if we knowingly and purposely passed it on. Mrs was extremely upset ashamed and was regretting the whole swinging experience because of it.

Went to the gym clinic with in a few days we become educated on the virus all our worries where put to bed. It's just a fucking cold sore. The gum clinic where not even bothered about it. Gave Mrs some drugs and all symptoms where gone.

We had a big desicion to make do we continue to play. With what we knew of the virus we decide there was no risk to anyone. Don't play when you have symptoms and if they did unfortunately get it then it's only a fucking cold sore.

We told all our regular friends on here who where extremely understanding. We tried to advice new meets in advance to give them the choice but again their reaction was often uneducated and childish so we can't see the point.

Annoying there is still to this day a lot of uneducated bitching going about us between members including one particular sad girl who has always been know to cause trouble.

The stupid thing is she carries cold sore virus herself so she can take her moral high ground and jump of a cliff.

We would never knowingly put anyone at risk would never play when symptoms are showing. Only had one outbreak since most likely won't get another one now. we always play safe accidents happen. Mr to this day has never had it. The bottom line is it is just a cold sore.

Your totally right, it's just cold sores in a not so nice place!!

A lot of people carry it but never show signs so may not be aware they are passing it on.

The thing with most sti's is the fact that they are sexually transmitted makes them nasty and dirty some how??

Most are pretty harmless and a short dose of anti biotics clears them up!

We all choose to live this life style so therefore I can't see why anyone of us should still be disgusted about sti's. It's easy to get informed and easy to get checked out regularly even those who insist they only play safe!!

If your too embarrassed to go to the clinic then maybe you shouldn't be living this life style.

Sti's are not dirty they are just infections like any other and can be treated easily. We all pretend to be so liberal and open minded on this site but it would seem so many are still living in the dark ages and with their heads in the sand.
