I can't see Newcastle getting rid of Mclaren anytime soon. They wouldn't have put him on the board if they didn't look at it as a long term appointment, and Mike Ashley has never listened to critics anyway, so will probably stick with him just to prove a point.

I suspect Liverpool have acted now to make sure they get their preferred man before the other clubs start sacking. Chelsea, Arsenal, Villa and Newcastle all must be thinking and Sunderland and Liverpool have already begun the search.

liverpools search will be for managers they don't need to actually pay any compensation for... so Klopp, Ancelotti (i didn't realise he still lived in london) or walter matzerri
