If Wales are the runners up it will teach your daughter the valuable lesson that rugby IS the most important lesson in life. Hopefully Wales will come first and will meet Ireland in the semis where we can revenge the warm up!

Hilarious....Daily Fail now reporting that a senior England player questioning selection of Burgess and that Farrell is the real voice behind the coaching decisions. I actually like both codes but the southern press' vilification of Burgess the past week is nothing short of tawdry and desperate - ermm Wales actually won the match AFTER Burgess departed and Roberts was allowed to play. Yes, Burgess is inexperienced at union but he had a better game than Barritt last week and was the least of England's problems. Let's blame the league boys for losing the rugby UNION world cup. Pathetic.

I feel for the England team and Lancaster...and I'm a Welsh man.

Booing during the match and post match interview, leaving before the match had finished? How about supporting the team who have been very much a force to be reckoned with.

Yes it was beneficial to Wales if Australia won but I'm not liking what I see in the press or the certain sector of arrogant fans who assumed victory was theirs.

Time to exercise the most important muscle in the human body...the disappointment muscle...we all need it to bounce back.

See you in 6 nations England...the fact so many people want to beat you is actually a compliment.

Full credit to Australia. That was, to my mind, the performance of the tournament so far. They look potential winners to me.

What a difference a year makes! After beating the Aussies so comfortably a year ago, I didn't see them as much of a threat. Clearly, they have progressed massively under their new coach while England have failed to under Lancaster

I agree with your comments. The press and those arrogant fans are one reason many people want England beaten. They need to learn to lose ( like the rest of us!)

I don't see myself as arrogant yet I wanted an Aussie win . Purely because it helped us progress out of pool stages .

Had England been in any other pool then they would have got my support .

They always play 100%, 100% of the time?

There is so much in the mechanics of playing well, if one little thing's off then it can have a domino effect.

Newcastle and Gateshead

the day after the night before thoughts....

i thought lancaster would have gone by now.... but then i got round to thinking "who would i want to take over from him?" and other than mike ford at bath... there are not really any english candidates (unless there was any way for you to nab joe schmidt)

the handling of the sam burgess situation between the rfu and bath has been awful throughout... I am not blaming him at all.... if they were going to get him in, it should have been longer than a year before (the NZRFU got s_nny bill in 2 and a half years before the 1st cup game... then because they had a plan.. let him go off back to league and come back to union where you knew he had the skills and wouldn't haqve to learn them all again)

if you have bath playing the kid as a back row forward... and england insisting he is an inside centre... no wonder he looked lost out there at times....

england have a play a... and no plan b... and if play a didn't work they were scuppered.... they were inflexable to trying different players in the back line until it was too late....

england need a back row rethink... they were plodding round the pitch and the smaller quicker aussie (pocock and hooper) were whizzing round cleaning up and loose ball and creating turnovers by getting to the breakdown first......

scrumage straight.... marler can't do it... vinopula doesn't do it.... for a poitn where 9 months ago people were laughing at the aussie scrum.. to where they were dominating.. full credit goes to michael cheka for bringing in mario ledesma....

actually... one of the papers did ask an interesting question

if the lions were playing tomorrow... how many england players would get in the starting 15....

i would says watson on the wing absolutely... i would make a case for mike brown on the bench (behind halfpenny.. and probably still behind rob kearney)

joesph as one of the centres possible... but i would take robbie henshaw or williams at the moment...

but other than those 3... in the forwards.... i don't think i make a case for any of them.... courtney laws would be the closest to a case... but i am not certainly not picking him in from of AWJ or POC

and there goes england problem... a lot of good players but very few world class players

If you haven't watched him. See Ian Henderson. He's just in and as good as POC (without the charisma or experience). He'll definitely go on a Lions tour

Cynical yes - and he paid the price with a yellow. But a match ban - don't be crazy!

what's your thoughts on the South African tip tackle on a Scottish player - not even a yellow !! That's a far more serious banning offence

"

see.. i think owens dealt with that one in a common sense way.. but the law doesn't have any "common sense" clause in it....

the scottish player actually bent his way into that position by ducking his neck....

technically, yes it should have been a yellow... but that would have felt harsh....

I am going to answer my own point re: the aussie back row being so much quicker around the ground than their english counterparts....

england do have one... and he is world class.... and he is sitting in france because england refuse to pick him because he plays overseas....

steffon armitage.... 2 time european player of the year....

maybe england revisit that because australia had the same rule... and they relented... and armitage's toulon teammate matt giteau scored the final try last night... and dominated the game

Steff doesn't fit the Lancaster robotic ' right character' Always plenty to say, always honest, doesn't 'buy in' re management speak..enjoys life..maybe carries an extra pound or two..but what a player..massive natural talent, totally fearless physically, and more importantly mentally.

Or it could be because all my paternal family are Italian an I've got Italian blood in me but I've never had feelings for Italy before. Yeah, I have strong memories attached to things, it took me a year before I could watch rugby again because it reminded me of my ex, we split in 2010, couldn't watch any rugby in 2011, got over it in 2012 and great we had the grand slam then every year since Ireland have fucked things up for us, alright we still had the title in 2013 but Ireland still beat is that year and every year since. rugby has never been a "seperate" sport in ireland sort of like GAA where the origins outdated the split and just stayed with the status quo....

heck ireland use to play test matches in belfast many moons ago

anyway i think ireland does well for having "provincial" rugby and serves them well for having all the good players centered at 4 teams.. and them playing top class rugby week in week out....

(and going to bring me back to an england point)

england use to have the "provincial/Divisional" rugby structure... where the Divisional rugby was the middle between the clubs and international rugby..... london (and south east), South West, Midlands, and North

in eglish clubs weren't so greedy.. i would have said you could have used that structure as englands representatives in the champions cup... at at least if you said those those teams could only have 4 "non-english" players.... thats 46 -50 engish player getting super top class experience....

remember that game. I think it was the one when the term "bag snatching" first came to prominence!

Neath were a very good side then, but wee horrible to play against. Bunch of nutters really!

I've got an old video from a Welsh cup game between Llanelli and Pontypridd from 1989. It makes the Neath v South Africa game look like a WI meeting.

It is quite astonishingly violent (and dangerous really). Different game. I'll let you know if I upload it ever.

I don't really follow rugby now, but the players shoe amazing restraint I think, given the physicality of the game.

one of our wingers had a cousin who played for Neath at 2nd team level in the late 70's and we used to have him visit and give us some coaching on what we could get away with inside the laws of the game of course..

most of what he said we couldn't do as a red card was a 100dm fine in front of the CO..

I think there'd have been comments if one of the UK countries or Ireland had been playing.

Were people expecting the USA to win over SA?

from a technical standpoint it is fascinating seeing australia playing with 2 6's scurring around the field trying to zip around the loose... and wales are playing 2 7's trying to slow down the game....

north at 13 may be inspired as it means the aussie midfield have to remain honest and wont be able to cheat up....

"Still can't believe we couldn't score with a 2 man advantage!

That is what happens when we come up against such a fantastic, strong defence. It isn't always about numbers

Ultimately the Aussies were just too tough a nut to crack

I can't really see them being bettered in the cup now.

I'm feeling a bit sorry for Scotland against them in the 1/4s

It is going to take one hell of a performance to beat them "

I'll be wearing my full tartan on that day, just in case we pull it off

Limavady

Oz defence, with only 13 men, was truly awesome. We've either got NZ in the 1/4s or the convicts in the semis. Shit
