As someone who works regular 10/11 hour shifts I would love a 6 hour day.

Currently I don't work for pay at all.

In my experience a shorter working day results in higher productivity. I have noticed that many, not all, part time staff achieve almost as much as full timers.

I have a very physical job and I am happy to work for 9 hours a day for five days and then spend another 3 hours training after work three days within that week. And have the energy to do a bit of training at the weekend.

What if you earned enough to pay the bills and still have some fun? Not enough for holidays abroad but enough to buy a cake to sit and eat on a sunny afternoon when everyone else was still in work.

That is almost exactly what we have done. We've sold our house, bought a smaller one, taken our tiny pensions, and when we work we work the fewest possible hours. We often sit eating cake when other people are at work .

I have cheated slightly because we do get foreign holidays but the money for them comes from a different source that can't be relied on.

I agree.

In one organisation I ran I enforced really strict limits on working hours as I was fed up of presenteeism I had seen in previous organisations. We were hugely productive and still had time for a long fish and chips lunch on a Friday once a month all together.

I keep my day to seven hours as much as possible. I'm more productive than when I used to work regular 12 and 14 hour days and healthier too.

My workload / responsibilities won't change if my hours change. I work as long as I have to to get the job done, which invariably means working way beyond my contracted (and paid) hours

I used to work 12 hours a day. Now I'm in the same job but only 6 hours a day. However having a 4 year old and the school run means im more knackered now than when I worked much longer shifts. Lol!

That was an interesting read! I'd love a 6 hour work day! Monday to Friday my week belongs to work and nothing else do love my weekends off though!
