Is it just my memory playing tricks or are there significantly more beautiful (read fit, buff, toned, handsome) on TV and movies these days?

I think they're on TV BECAUSE they look like that - it's definitely more a looks industry than it used to be, if you're blessed with good genes then you definitely stand a better chance of a TV role than if you're not

I suspect that because the parts they play are so forgettable, the characters so shallow, they are casted on their sheer beauty alone, less we forget them

I think we had our share of vacuous pretty young men back then but tastes have changed a bit and now they don't compare to the vacuous pretty young men of today.
