Alone but not lonely

I love being alone, and cannot remember ever being lonely, even when I was young.

Although I love going to parties, meeting people, and be a social butterfly, I still like to find time to be on my own, to chill, reflect and relax etc...

Camping is my way of getting away from it all, and I love it!

Mind you, nowadays, I am strictly not on my own, as I have my cat and dog for company.

Anyone else enjoy their own company?

I used to. When I lived alone.

*Him* & I rarely spend any time apart unless we're at work. Tonight he is out on his Christmas 'do'. I came home to an empty house, just about mustered up the interest to 'cook (I use the term loosley!) at 9pm and have been bored witless ever since.

Am thinking about going to bed now because i'm so bored and it's only early for a Friday.

I love my own company...

Have always been on my own.

But with not hearing from my son.... losing my friend of childhood days ....My big sister and my lovely uncle...

All in 3 mths this year.

This year (xmas and nyr) its gonna be difficult ...

But........

You have to make an effort for those left behind re my brothers who will really miss my big sis.

And my aunt who hasnt ever spent a xmas alone.

So chin up and onwards and upwards...

Ever since I was a child and could climb a tree with a book to escape my siblings I've loved my own company.

Much as I love my family and friends I still space out, disappear and have me time, even if it's just to sit in the rocks at the beach with a book or a sketch pad and a flask of soup .... me time is precious and entirely indulgent but necessary xxx

We took our Persian camping wirh us in the caravan. She was too much my baby to leave. You should have seen peoples faces when we went down the beach lol.

When my parents owned a caravan park in cornwall there was an old couple that had a static van and brought along their 21 cats overtime and they stayed in side the van at all times as most were rescue cats

I remember feeling desperately lonely: so much so I could hardly breath. The moment: Christmas Day, my family all sat around the fully laden dinner table, laughing and happy, and I wanted to die. I was also desperately unhappy with my marriage: four months later I left my husband.

I've not been lonely since.

There are times when I think I'd like a partner but the reality is I like my own company. I've become self absorbed and hedonistic. I could compromise, but I don't want to if truth be told!

As Fabio has said I do miss being cuddled. I'm happy being on my own. Will I feel the same at 60?!! Paradoxically: I hope not!

I'm on my own now (except the week when I've got my son) for the first time in my life. That sounds strange considering I'm in my mid-thirties, but when I went to university I always shared houses, then I met my ex and we lived together for 15 years.

This really is the first time in my life that I've ever truly been home alone for more than just a couple of hours. It's a bit unnerving at times. That may sound daft to people who are used to being in an empty house, but I'm still getting my head around it.

Cooking is a real pain in the arse. I'd never really noticed that supermarkets don't sell food in single person portions. I'm having to freeze the leftover stuff whenever I do any cooking... I'm going to need a new freezer soon.

I am, however, enjoying being able to sit on the loo without having someone barge in asking where the remote control for the telly is, or why their mobile phone has stopped working, or where their favourite jumper is, etc...

I agree been alone doesn't mean lonely, hell you can be in a relationship and be lonely.

But I do miss having someone, funny thing it's silly things like wanting to share a joke, or just give hug when you come in from a cold day outside.

Cook in bulk, portion into good air-tight plastic tubs and freeze for later.

That's what I do all the time, and always have a selection of different dishes in freezers for me to take to work for lunch.

Just need to cook some starch like pasta and rice to go with them.

My soups are thick and hearty, only need some croutons or a slice of toast to provide contrast in texture.

I'll be making meatballs and a rich tomato sauce to go with them later this weekend, as I have freed up sufficient tubs to make it worth while to make a biggish batch.

Heh, have to admit that I tried that just because I could, but I can't sleep on my front or back. I can only sleep on my side, curled up in the foetal position.
