One for the ladies: Fibroids

I'm going into hospital today have a 1 mm fibroid removed, my Mirena changed and my cervix cauterised for a large ectropion. OK ladies, what should I expect afterwards? It's Mirena no. 4 for me so I'm au fait with that but I've never had anything done to my cervix before. I imagine it will be messy!

More importantly though, what shall I download to my iPad to amuse me on the ward this afternoon?

Chams or Socials

I've had numerous d&c's, colposcopy a & laparoscopys over the years but not for fibroids (sorry!)

If keyhole them the gases can hurt (not much) later when escaping your body

I would say rest & painkillers will be your friends. Rest is easier said than done but avoid heavy lifting, hoovering etc. last time I couldn't even use a kettle for 24 hours but advice is different for everyone.

I assume you're having a general? If so you'll be groggy for sometime after & probably not allowed to leave until you've eaten & done a wee.

Good luck xxxx

I'm not having anything keyhole, just through my cervix. I'm expecting that cramp feeling you get after the IUD is inserted plus a fair amount of bleeding. What we women have to put up with!

Hope you're OK x

You might not get as much bleeding as you think but be prepared just in case. I think the main thing with anything like this is to rest and don't be afraid to ring the doctor if you're worried.

Good luck

I'm fine everybody. I had pain like the worst period pain ever when I was back in the ward, but I took ibuprofen and had a comfortable evening. My belly is very swollen though! Guessing they blew my uterus up to better see.

Milking the situation for all I can

Worked last night: persuaded husband that recovery wad not possible without Ferrero Rocheo or Lindors. Bingo: he got me both look
