Googled as per your request. Perhaps Ms Church over simplified it, but it's probably not the first time in history that drought has caused civil and political unrest.

In that respect...climate *may* be considered one factor that influenced the events which led to the state Syria is currently in... Perhaps.

The oil and gas pipelines certain countries want to drive through Syria are also a tiny bit to do with the war.

Coventry

It was definitely a factor. A massive drought drove millions of people from the land into the cities which were already over populated due to the huge number of Iraqi refugees, it's a problem that's only going to get worse if you look at the research around it.

Personally I love Charlotte Church! She's an intelligent young woman who's heart is in the right place (IMO)...

Beauty, brains and a social conscience (not a bad voice either)

A factor maybe, the main reason? I don't think so.

She was on the muppets wasn't she? Sounds like she's been taking political advice from Kermit and Miss Piggy.

The drought caused big property price rises and other issues, which the regime didn't do much about, then they started using firearms at peaceful protests, Think American intelligence called it a force multiplier
