Alone for the first time

I might see about volunteering at a local nursing home as companionship for those that don't have any visitors on the day.

Family is too far away (and I don't feel like freezing my ass off in NYC in Dec/Jan) so we usually spend the day with our dogs, then hop on a plane to Europe the next day. It's awesome.

In the past, I have gone out on xmas day into the city of manchester and handed out presents to the homeless.. Usually warm socks, hats, gloves, scarfs, chocolate, turkey sandwiches, a smile and a handshake. It's so rewarding and a great way to let every one have a little piece of xmas spirit.

I don't really do anything at Christmas. I'm usually just glad of the couple of days off work. I was just thinking about this earlier as I wandered around the shops, dismayed that they're already selling Christmas stuff! Christmas lost its magic for me a long time ago. I just don't get any joy or feel any excitement from it anymore. Without wanting to put too much of a downer on things, it can be quite a sad time for me actually.

I haven't really got any suggestions for you OP other than feel free to pack me in your suitcase wherever you're heading

last year on solstice i held ceremony for longest night, hosted a womens 'rent tent' and then hosted a free dance event, for everyone..it was a great day and evening i may do the same again.

Christmas is all 4 kids of mine being home, with my parents who are still here, and my brother..all doing the open the boxes ( we have boxes so we can fill them with shredded paper and have our traditional paper fight) thing..

dinner together before i slope off, when i cant handle the chaos any more

however i have spent new years in places, Paris, Amsterdam, Australia (as i lived there)

when its not so important for my family id like to do a more Christmas open house for everyone, to come and celebrate together.. whomever wanted to come along..the magic of people and sharing, is Christmas for me.. i also do the socks/gloves hats thing, but i contribute, i dont distribute x

The first time I spent Christmas alone was shit. I was suicidal to be honest but I knew I had to get through it for my son & then I started realising I could do what I wanted when I wanted & instead of it being a low point I saw it as a time to recharge my batteries.

I speak to my family on Christmas Day but I won't go to anyone's & they have to accept that fact.

Cancun- Temptations?

Sadly not, taking kids along."

South East Midlands NOT

I have xmas day at home with my mum, sister and my dad (he comes up despite being divorced from my mum 12 years ago) my mum does the cooking and gets very stressed about it! Then on boxing day me, dad and sis go to france to see our family there. My dad's one of 6 kids so we have many cousins etc and we have a big party each year between christmas and NY. It's the only time I see my french family.

A family Christmas dinner at a nice hotel, there is no cooking, cleaning up and we leave before the drama starts.

I used to love Christmas when I was younger as we would see all our aunts and uncles Christmas Day evening and Boxing Day/evening. I really miss those Christmases.
