I think that's quite expensive. We're getting a 4 course meal, all drinks, entertainment, a hotel room and, I think, breakfast in the morning, for £50 per head. In the most expensive hotel in the city too (granted the city is Inverness, but it's still a top place).

I suppose it depends how many are going too, as you get better deals the more people are included.

I haven't been to one in the 8 years I have been with this company, even though they pay for the meal.

I'm part of a team that's spread throughout South Wales, so they pick somewhere "central" and organise it.

Trouble is, "central" means somewhere on the M4 corridor to them, so I have to travel miles, and if I wanted to drink I'd have to book a room.

All in all its too much arsing around and cost, so I don't go.

"I usually go to two. They are both normally fantastic nights."

Last year paid transport to one and the other drove and paid for parking overnight at the hotel - £30 in total for both. The two companies footed the rest of what were very sizeable bills. Dinner, drinks, entertainment and venue in one case; and cocktails, dinner, more cocktails and all other drinks plus overnight stay in a suite plus breakfast the following morning in the other. To say I felt spoils rotten and very grateful was an understatement

£35 non-subsidised.

Didn't bother last year, apparently they had a great time.

This year the same place is booked, they all think it'll be just as good, when in reality that's unlikely.

So, I'll probably swerve it, esp as I'd need either a hotel room or a taxi on top. My colleagues are OK, but they're not as much fun as people I choose to spend time with...

Interesting reading that other companies ask their employees to contribute towards a Christmas party.

For years I thought that the company I work for was the only one in the UK who did such a thing, hens out of principle I never go.

It's often held at some swanky hotel or huge venue and we often have to contribute around £35 per head.

The costs don't stop there though. Drinks are limited to around 4 per person and it's often miles away from where we live/work which means expensive cab fares. Overal it's a £150-£200 expense. Fuck that shit!

What's really annoying is when see everyone with there partner and your the only single guy there. Pathetic. Another reason why I don't go. Makes me feel sorry for myself

I work in the public sector so not funded, it's normally around £30-£35 each for a 3 course meal in central Bristol, plus an extra £3 contribution to for coach to the restaurant. As there is normally between 70-100 of us I find the food to generally be of mediocre quality even when it's in a fairly decent restaurant so sometimes begrudge paying out. Our senior management team normally chip in for the wine again that's out of their own pocket. When I do go it's normally an early night for me as a taxi home is £60 so arrange a lift home earlier on.
