Brown teeth - holy cow...

May sound harsh... But anyone else recoil if they see someone with *brown* teeth?

Saw someone in a club last week that was okay generally speaking.

But then they smiled... And holy crap!

It was bad.

Had they been eating soil? Chewing tobacco? What?

Honestly, it's one of those times you want to give "constructive feedback" and say "Mate, for the love of anyone near you... Please sort your teeth out".

Would that be harsh to actually vocalise? Or doing someone a favour?

(Nb. Teeth don't need to be perfect, they don't need to be paper white.. but... Seriously!)

Flames

You wouldn't be doing them a favour they'll be more then well aware.

If it's got that bad how could they possibly afford to repair the damage ?

It's front rotten teeth that make me Bork. You know like them little wood looking browny black stumps.....errgghh

I like kissing so oral hygiene is important to me. I don't mind a missing tooth here and there, some are knocked out,but badly stained and no daily relationship with a toothbrush would have me running for the hills.

Lets leave the destructive critisism out shall we as we are not all perfect with selfcare. Loads of reasons the teeth could rot, pregnancy and the constant throwing up could cause it, sensitive gum, some people have an intolerance to the fluoride in toothpaste which could deter one from brushing regularly, name it. I dont think its your place to comment on their business

I was on a course of tetracycline as a child, and because of this my teeth will never be white.

Even if I had the peroxide treatment done professionaly, it wouldn't work. My only hope of ever having white teeth is to have then all veneered. That's not something I can hope to afford except maybe in my old age when the kids are gone and the mortgage is paid off. Probably have false teeth by then though!

I had my first filling at 12 and last one at 14, I think it was something to do with pubity that weakened my teeth as I never did anything different and havent since.

However, due to diabetic my gums started to disappear around some of my teeth, which over a period of time I had to have 4 out, 3 are at the back and the other one I have is false, I was absolutley paroniod about getting it done, noone has a clue which one unless I tell them.

But for a lot of things that damage your teeth you do get free dentalcare.

It's inappropriate to point out other people's intimate intricacies unless close, like a life partner etc. If you don't want someone as a shag then a polite no is appropriate at most.

You'll not know what another has been through, such as medical treatment, early life deprivation or being physically less fortunate in their health than you. You wouldn't comment on someone having missing limbs, so the same goes for another misfortune.

Any harsh comments could be the thing that causes a person to give up on life and is akin to bullying.

Comment on oral hygiene when you're a patient's dentist. Restraint is appropriate always, if you're inclined to be insensitive or harsh to others.

The majority is down to bad personal care and we seem to live in an age where people refuse to take personal responsibility and look for anyone and everything but themselves to blame. The obesity thread a few weeks ago was the same, people blaming their weight on the supermarkets for selling them junk food. Honestly some people need to suck it up and take personal responsibility for their own health, hygiene and well being.

Without sounding too sanctimonious I think he might be right?

I know personally, I've done my upmost to try and maintain mine (ALWAYS visited a dentist, flossed and NEVER missed brushing them, not even when I used to stagger home wankered in the early hours after a night on the piss) -OCD, I know.

I guess I've been fortunate, as well (so far) but, I'd hazard a guess that the majority (not all) of people who's teeth are fucked haven't/don't visited/visit their dentist regularly?

Known fact women when pregnant can have a massive calcium deficiency, due to the growing baby taking more out of the mother than she can produce. It doesn't affect all women.

My teeth were fucked in a basketball accident at the age of 14. I have done everything I can to maintain them over the years. Because of the bridges required it has not been easy to keep my gums healthy, but persistence, hard work and a rigorous dental hygiene regime including check ups every three months means I've been able to keep fighting the losing battle for longer. But feel free to criticise them cosmetically

This is one of those threads where someone gives an extreme example of something they find unattractive and everyone jumps in with "but what about people who've had cancer" or whatever. I find disgusting looking teeth offputting. My teeth are certainly not perfect, but there's a huge difference between healthy but imperfect teeth and ones where you can tell they've rotted them through a lifetime of abuse.

Yes pregnant women, diabetics etc are more susceptible to tooth damage and decay, that's precisely why they get free dental care to make up for it. If they choose not to take that up, that's their problem.

That said, I would never say it to someone's face as the reason I wasn't interested because that's just rude.

Too right.

No one has been named and shamed.

Why do people feel the need to jump in with righteous indignation if someone states the bleeding obvious particularly on someone elses behalf?

Certain things are objectionable such as rotting or missing teeth, body odour, obesity, uncleanliness and if a thread like this makes someone deal with (or attempt to) these self inficted issues then bloody good job.

However there is one immutable truth in this swinging lark; There is someone for everyone.

Just make your choice without offending too many people lol

"My teeth were fucked in a basketball accident at the age of 14.

Are the existing teeth brown, black and rotten through bad oral hygiene? Do you remember what colour your toothbrush is?

Some of them are discoloured, filled with amalgam and not very attractive and a couple are missing and my toothbrush is white and blue

Some of my teeth look blue because of fillings "

I have a couple like that too

"This is one of those threads where someone gives an extreme example of something they find unattractive and everyone jumps in with "but what about people who've had cancer" or whatever.

That said, I would never say it to someone's face as the reason I wasn't interested because that's just rude."

Agreed

"Not brown, but I do work with someone who resembles Cousin Cleatus from the back woods, the few teeth he has left are more of a rotten black and nicotine yellow colour

Blaming bad teeth on pregnancy? WTF.

Actually they can be affected. The body sends the calcium the foetuses' way- thats why pregnant women get free dental care."

When I was a young baby I caught bronchial pneumonia. I was in an oxygen tent for weeks and only just survived. The illness removed all of the calcium from my teeth. My teeth aren't yellow because most of them are capped with veneers. But as a young child I had to go through the painful experience of having all of my teeth capped and veneered. Anybody who has a perfect set of choppers should think themselves lucky. But for the grace of god or so they say

Everyone has the right to a preference when meeting people.

There is a lot that puts me off people but I choose not to air these!

I too don't have perfect teeth. I'm not interested in justifying why to shallow people! But what I will say is that if you've ever had your jaw broken by a dentist and needed hospital treatment due to this and excessive blood loss, you would understand why some people have a real fear of the dentist!

Just because someone's teeth aren't perfect has no reflection on their personal hygiene.

If someone has spots does that mean they don't wash???

"lack of money I had a back crown fall off 3 years ago lucky for me it don't hurt but ive not had the money to get it seen to "

I think this can be the reason a few people dont have great teeth, as i know as i cant afford to go and have my little holes filed, or have the numerous checkups etc, so i brush and use mouthwash and hope for the best

I stick by what I originally said. I like kissing and I won't kiss anyone who doesn't try to look after their teeth. Basic hygiene and keeping them clean doesn't cost much or take much time. Mine are far from perfect but I clean them every day.

Ffs, some people just don't (or just refuse to) get it.

Most people are on here to have sex with strangers (cue big denials).

If you met someone in a pub/club/whatever and they had bad odor, dressed horribly, practically toothless or a mouth-full like a snooker set, looked like they'd just lost a fight or all of the above then you would not even contemplate having anything to do with them, let alone a one-night-stand.

About two years ago I had a few quid to spare and got invisalign braces now my teeth have always been clean and relatively stain free but I had the dreaded fangs.

I had no idea until after my treatment finished how much people noticed teeth. I had people I hadn't seen in ages comment on the difference. Now I also had whitening kits which I only had to use 1/5 because I looked after my teeth before.

Simply put there is no excuse for bad teeth even on meds. A family member is on the strongest of the strong cancer meds and she was told from the beginning that normal hygiene will prevent rotting even if the enamel is damaged.

Brown/stained teeth is from years of poor hygiene and if thats what people show to public I do wonder how clean the bits are that we can't see.that said it can all be fixed if they bother and have the funds.

Morning sickness every day can stain your teeth quite badly. Can't be helped.

So how do you explain the effects of tetracycline on children when their adult teeth come through? It effects the enamel as its grown, it will always be discoloured, sometimes quite a dark brown. They can be scaled polished every day for the rest of your life, but they are never going to come out white. Take it from one who knows.

Haven't you heard? Your a filthy minger who just can't be bothered to brush your teeth and if you can't be bothered to clean your teeth then your knob is filthy too!!!

There are lots of very good reasons for having stained or out of line teeth but "according to some" none of them are true! There is no legitimate reason for it regardless of what anyone says. So get your butt in that bathroom and brush your teeth until they are white and straight!!!! Or be judged by the perfect people!

I haven't seen anyone on this thread claiming their teeth are perfect. Mine are a bit wonky and probably not as white as they should be. There is such a big difference between decayed and rotting and the kind of discolouration caused by antibiotics. I still reserve the right to feel grossed out by people whose teeth are clearly the result of neglect.

Toothbrush and a bottle of mouthwash not much more either. Check up at the dentist once every 6 months costs me £20 quid each time if no treatment needed. There really is no excuse for willful neglect.

Honestly, it's one of those times you want to give "constructive feedback" and say "Mate, for the love of anyone near you... Please sort your teeth out".

Would that be harsh to actually vocalise? Or doing someone a favour?
