Anyone use SAD lamps?

Just ordered one. Do you find they work?

I used one for years and it definitely helped. You do need quite a lot of exposure time a day.

I'm hoping that the lamp and Vitamin D will get me through the winter.

Wish I could hibernate from September til March

In the winter, I sit in our sun room so it helps it being lighter there if not sunnier.

I try to sit in the garden every day for at least 20 mins.

I also don't have curtains blocking any sunlight

I love the winter, the scenery changes . Great walks on frosty mornings .

The sun is still about just a bit harder to find. Then before you know it , the days grow longer and signs spring is on her way

love winter too, but my brother really suffers..he's used a lamp,says it helps...he's also taken to buggering off to india for the whole of january every year which seems to cheer him up!

Try the Lumie Alarm clock- gets an hour a day in just by mimicking sunrise and sunset xx

We sell those. Don't leave it on too long as they have a habit of overheating. Ours was on display for the best part of a week continuously when the plastic cracked due to overheating

We sell those. Don't leave it on too long as they have a habit of overheating. Ours was on display for the best part of a week continuously when the plastic cracked due to overheating.

Also, some say it works, some don't, I personally think it's based on how strongly you believe it will work

Caused no end of arguments when an ex of mine bought one. As soon as it started to activate I got woken up, hours before my alarm was due to go off, whereas, she just stayed fast asleep and only woke up when it got a lot brighter. Tried adjusting it, but to no avail.

If there's two of you in the same bed/room, and you have different levels of light sensitivity, there's obviously an issue.

Luckily I'm on my own, so no issues if I have the lamp in my bedroom.

Winter is crap for me, makes my rheumatism flare up.

Have you been diagnosed with Vit. d deficiency? If so what strength of supplement are you taking?

Didn't work for me but I probably just wasn't getting enough exposure.

Worked in a windowless shop and by the time I got home in the evenings, I had such a bad headache I couldn't stand to have such a bright light in the room.

I know it's not healthy but I got better results from the odd 5-10mins on a sun bed.

I wish I had 40 mins in the mornings when I'm working to fanny about with sunrise simulation lamps!

Alarm goes off at 4.45 and I'm in the car by 4.55.

I also hate light in the bedroom so one of these would probably just piss me off.

Makes a difference waking up slightly earlier in the winter month, a bit of exercise first thing, then your daily routine followed by 10-15 minutes in front of the box (SAD) for a lot it's a comfort proberly don't really make a difference.

oddly enough, 6 mins of sunbed once a week, really helps me, especially my skin rash that I get from my meds. It's just getting to the sunbed shop!

Ditto. Does my psoriasis the world of good.

It was easier for me to stop at the tanning shop inbetween other duties than it was to sit infront of the SAD lamp for 30-60mins.
