Blood moon, supermoon *and* a lunar eclipse due in the early hours. Very rare (last time was in '82) and worth staying up for

"The nice orangey colour has gone now.. Will it come back later?"

Astronomers do not use Blood Moon as a scientific term. However, it is possible that the term came to describe total lunar eclipses because of the reddish color the eclipsed Moon takes on during totality. This happens because of Rayleigh scattering, the same mechanism that causes colorful sunrises and sunsets.

Pooch and I are sat in the garden , a beautiful view of the moon here.

We will get up at three am to see the eclipse. Telescope at the ready.

The ancient peoples who lived in this area must have had their minds blown by such an event. The Celts who came after them worshiped the moon.

There is a special significance for me too , as i will be one year older and none the wiser .

"Set my alarm for just after 3 .... Was a Beautiful Colour & So many Stars "

I saw it, and I even got my kids up to see it, just walked to the top of the road to sit on a bench with the dog rather than standing around outside for ages. Damn shame really, because of the lay of the houses, I couldn't see it from my back garden, and I also couldn't see from looking from a front window... That's why we decided to take the three minute wander to that bench

Yes it was Wonderful not a cloud in sight, that big star in the east I presume was Uranus, and up above the sky was full Of stars, the plough, the bear or great bear, even orion perhaps, scoped the moon for half an hour well worth it.
