OK, men. On a crowded train/bus/tube do you give up your seat to a lady who is having to stand?

No...

Because I never use public transport. However I open doors for ladies and would give up my seat in a waiting room (for example) if necessary.

Entirely different. If there is anyone in a difficult situation, I am sure most of us would be willing to sacrifice our comfort. I am posing the scenario where it is a perfectly adequate lady who is having to stand.

Good Lord!

A lady would never take public transport!

(I used to, but now one has to be more careful. Besides, once you get to my age, the young women offer me theirs instead saying "ere, you go grandpa")

I would expect a healthy, fit male to offer me his seat. I would a;so certainly expect a child to stand up if adults needed a seat.

But if there was anyone with any form of fragility I would give them my seat straight away.

I tend not to use public transport but was on the Tube last weekend and noticed that men don't seem to give a shit any more

Some don't care you're pregnant I can't even count how many times when I was heavily pregnant with my twins and wearing a very obvious bump support harmed and back brace to help me support the weight of the babies and I was left standing uncomfortably in agony only wishing I'd be at least offered a seat.

I am not sure that is entirely true. I recall being on the Tube not so long ago and at least three people offered their seats to a heavily pregnant lady.

But the question was about giving up your seat to a perfectly fit lady.

People can be far too judgemental in situations like this. I suffer with a herniated disc which causes terrible pain in my lower back and right leg, but to look at me I would appear perfectly healthy. So should I give up my seat and stand in agony silently, or sit there and people think I'm ignorant and not a gentleman? Food for thought

Nobody ever gave up their seat for me when i was pregnant, and my kids were all whoppers so it was obvious i was pregnant.

Once again, folks, I am not asking about people less able. I am asking about able-bodied females.

I would hope that anyone with half a heart would give up their seat to someone who had a greater need so there is no point in suggesting that.

You are in a crowded train. An able-bodied female is standing. Do you offer her your seat?

depends if I felt caged in as I don't like being too close to people so sometimes in the past yes even on a crowded train I have got up from my seat and stood some where else and let somebody take my seat.

as I have long legs and am not too fond off being sandwiched between people...

I always give up a seat for a lady. Was brought up that way. There are too many people who just think of themselves. We took kids out of pushchairs who were old enough to sit on laps and folded up buggies and put in the luggage rack.

Paul does because he was brought up to be very gentlemanly and does treat woman as if they are "precious" ie opens doors, drops you close to the place you are going and then parks and he won't allow a woman to carry bags! I have argued with him so many times over this as I am miss independent but he eas brought up to look after woman
