What is it?

Just let me say "TUT" to anyone thinking of posting 'sex'

Sex,on it's own,has no meaning other than to temporarily satisfy a physical need...much like a drink when you are thirsty or food when you are hungry.

Ok, the meaning of life for me, Monty Python aside....to exist in with relavance and understanding. To be the best I can possibly be while keeping those around me safe enough to be the best they can be also. To give as much as I recieve, to think of others as much as I think of myself and ultimately to leave our mortal plannet with a peaceful heart and mind. And if I can have a bloody good time doing all that then the meaning of my life will be in my legacy.

Perhaps to present any argument, which purports there could be a meaning to life. It would firstly be necessary to consider if the existence of life itself was infact created by grand design or perhaps as a consequence of random chance…

Thus rendering the possibility the answer to the question “what is the meaning of life” could potentially be nothing more than to categorically establish why life even exists at all…..

my daughter - she is the light of my life, having lost 4 boys and nearly losing her too

my job - as I work with some of the most wonderful people who are like family to me

my friends - as they have seen me through a lot of dark times and never judge me

my divorce - as it empowered me to be the (strong) person I am today

But to be serious for a moment.. My Children.. (at 29 & 27 they are still my children!) and our Grandchildren who make me feel so fulfilled. My siblings who seem to know just what is wanted and when and always come through for those in need. And of course, my darling lady.. We have been together since she was 14 and I was 16 and we are as much in love as we were then, just differently.

Our friends, both vanilla and swinging. We are very lucky to have some great mates and some lovely acquaintances from all walks of life. Some we have been able to help out and some have helped us at need, we are truly fortunate.

I don't measure possessions in this, they can come and go, family is forever. Not interested in "empowerment" on any level, my business is a means to an end and any other "high brow" meaning is just tosh to make people feel important. Well, my family & friends do that for me so guess I am a very lucky guy!

Many people around the world find themselves involved in unjustifiably evil manmade situation, where the struggle for daily survival can never be fully understood by those of us who live in relative comfort and safety…..

Perhaps these people share the true understanding of the meaning of life, a meaning which somehow sustains their ability to cling onto a hope of better times ahead or perhaps allows some shelter from terrifying fears that death itself can be somehow present a worse form of suffering than the treacherous existence life has cruelly presented them…

and all done without an offer or incentive to understand why.,,,,, or perhaps maybe they just have a common faith in love and all thats good in humanity,,,,

and maybe that is the true meaning of life is for anyone... (trust and faith, in who and what we love)

My life is given meaning by the sight of beauty. This does not have to be physical or consumable. There is beauty in every act of kindness, caring and generosity, even a smile.

Why? because it moves me, makes me smile, laugh and sometimes cry, has no borders nor a price.

i have two views

first: the individual

e.g. kids, hobbies, family, friends

second: has to be a trait that can be shared by everyone. we all have emotions etc so theoretically we should be challenged by one big thing that keeps us together and not something driving us apart from our neighbour like in the art of war(though war can be a neccesity at times)

Was actually thinking about this very thing whilst at work today.

Had just been listening to Merry Christmas War Is Over, and the lyrics, "And so this is Christmas, and what have you done?

Another year over, a new one just begun..."

And reflecting on gains this year (few) and losses (too many).

So was also thinking about my faith, or lack of it, as I am about to attend another funeral next week, and thinking, just what Is the Point of it all?

I know you all think 'sad bitch', but the net result was that there is this thing in me now, that wasn't always there, that I have learned, and its this thing called Hope, so that is my answer, Hope.

Money will only make you happy up to about 50,000 a year, above that and it's just about powwer and pretige, appaerntly. What is obvious though is that poverty can and does make people miserable, unless you're some kind of Indian mystic happy in a loincloth but to be honest most of them look gloomy as fuck. The meaning to life. There isn't one, none more than there is a meaning to bein dead, or a rock or a drop of water. You just are, for a brief time....then you're not. That's it. However nothing to say that you can't and shouldn't be positive and open Never intentionally hurt,give openly, never take what isn't freely offered, learn the lessons of life and you'll be right. Oh and a damn good fucking is always tip top in my book. Gets those endorphins and seratonin rushing lol Be happy everyone coz this is all there is....

If you mean life in general, I don't think it has any meaning at all - it just happens because of natural circumstances. If you mean conscious human life, I think it has no more meaning than the life of an amoeba, except what the individual believes it to be. If you mean my life, for the world to be no worse when I leave it than when I found it. Perhaps just a little better.

When i lost my sister this year, i sat in tears and wondered why we all bothered.

There are those who go through life shitting on all those they meet, those who kill and maim and still live in relative comfort.

And then i thought about the fight she gave for ten years...

She fought with every breath she had to live another day.

To wake up with those she loved , to see her beautiful sons and to offer comfort to others suffering.

The meaning of life to me now is to honour her memory by enjoying my life and making the best of every day.

To treat everyone with a little kindness and hope to get a little back sometime .

We exist in a universe that has no rules only what we *think* are the rules as defined by a common ignorance. Every so often one of us comes close to getting to the real truth behind the eternal question "What are we and why are we here?" but they inevitably fail when they try to answer those questions.

The Universe does not care one iota if you are in an explosion or a car crash and you survive and the person next to you doesn't - it is not fate. It is merely you survived and he/she didn't. No plan was effected to ensure your survival.

The Universe does not give a damn if you don't procreate as enough people will to make your non-contribution absolutely meaningless.

The Universe does not care one jot if this planet is destroyed by an asteroid as there are millions of other planets out there with an equal if not higher level of life on them.

In short, we are ants scurrying around thinking we're important but the reality of it is: we're nothing in the big scheme of things. Absolutely Zero, Nada, Zilch, NOTHING!

That's the Meaning of Life.

True but a rather nihlistic though. what of love, family, companionship, friends etc. The universe does give a toss about us because we are part of it and of it. The universe is self aware because we are self aware and we are part of it. Cheer up.

There you go, a small part of the universe is very happy indeed. No doubt because of some deeply embedded evolutionary mechanism that evolved as a reward system for all the effort and risk put into procreating...BUT SO WHAT.

I have been happy all my life, ever since I broke free of the shackles man tries to continually place upon me using things like 'love', 'family', 'companionship', 'family', 'honour', 'loyalty' to bind me. I do feel those things but I know they are transient - they are liable to diappear just as quickly as they appeared. So I live for the moment.

Siren often comments that she wishes she could shake her troubles off as easily as I seem to be able to. The truth of it is that I really don't care about much of what happens in this world apart from what directly affects me and mine. Nothing I do is going to change someone's life in Africa for example, and what's more, I don't really care if it does or not.

Sex,on it's own,has no meaning other than to temporarily satisfy a physical need...much like a drink when you are thirsty or food when you are hungry.

So what is it that REALLY satisfies you that gives your life meaning?

Was actually thinking about this very thing whilst at work today.

Had just been listening to Merry Christmas War Is Over, and the lyrics, "And so this is Christmas, and what have you done?

Another year over, a new one just begun..."

And reflecting on gains this year (few) and losses (too many).

So was also thinking about my faith, or lack of it, as I am about to attend another funeral next week, and thinking, just what Is the Point of it all?

I know you all think 'sad bitch', but the net result was that there is this thing in me now, that wasn't always there, that I have learned, and its this thing called Hope, so that is my answer, Hope."

Hope surrounds my circle of friends and family this christmas...we have just 4 weeks to raise £380,000 so that my daughters friends little girl(my 5 yr old grand daughters bestest buddy) can have a life saving bone marrow transplant in america..she has a very rare terminal illness not treatable in the UK....THE REAL MEANING OF LIFE is just to be alive or at least have the chance to stay alive........

Right, that was the question asked! Not what is the meaning of life in relation to the universe, but "what is it that REALLY satisfies you that gives your life meaning?"

Questions on a forum can reveal lots about respondents as this one (and some others I have read) has shown.

For those that care about their fellow person and do want to make a difference to others, life can be very fulfilling. They are the ones with "sorted" lives and will ultimately have satisfaction. Yes there are worries along the way, but that is not a bad thing.

For those who don't care about others.. Well, perhaps either there is something missing or there is an element of depression lurking there somewhere. All of us with children should be worried to some extent about “tomorrow” because if we don’t, we are not worried about our children future.

At the end of the day, this is just my thought process on the actual question asked and not some cosmic wandering.. But I do worry about others and I actively support any of my friends and family who are in need, not to do so would leave me feeling very empty…
