"For me being in love or falling in love with someone catches you unawares and hits you with a deep emotional force. It can be disorienting and confusing, as well as exhilarating and exciting. Whereas loving someone is a deliberate continual action, that goes beyond infatuation and momentary feelings of elation and joy. It requires a devotion to the other person." I think there's a distinction between falling in love and being in love. For me, falling in love is as you described. My idea of being in love is what you describe as loving someone - the deliberate continual action. My loving someone (as opposed to being in love) is a comfortable, steady state where you don't have to try. It doesn't require the same kind of devotion, it's just there. It doesn't really require any effort, but it doesn't have the highs and the powerful lasting emotions of being in love either.

"you can love multiples you can only be inlove with one " Yeah this. I'll add you can love friends and family. You can only be in love with 'the one'. Polyamorous types might disagree though.

"Being in love is the butterflies thing. Loving someone is the warm glow. Having both- the holy grail x" Indeed.. (breaks out magnifying glass and deerstalker to go find it...)

"The difference? madness. Try and describe the falling in love/being in love state and it doesn't really sound sane. It sounds like a chemical imbalance, an addiction or a compulsion. Loving someone not only sounds sane but feels sane. Just sometimes you are in love with the person you love. It's the best when you get the slightly irrational thrill, the tingle down your spine feeling, alongside the certain knowledge that you are safe and have the steady love too. " Yes, there is a loss of control with being in love that is not often present when you simply love.
