Passion.

Towards the end of my last LTR, I loved my girlfriend but we weren't in love anymore. That all consuming passion had fizzled but still cared for each other a great deal, still do. Just not romantically.

"What's the difference?"

Chemistry and a connection that is inexplicable...

My ex and I love each other dearly, we are best friends and my life would be the worse without him. However, we had no chemistry or passion ever.

There are many forms of love..thay deep bond. Family, children, partners. Even pets.

But being in love is when you get those butterflies when you see them. When you want to share everything and be intimate with them..when they make your heart beat faster with a word or a look...

That's my view anyway...but people are different.

The person involved. You can love anyone however it's legally and morally frowned on to be in love with a close family member.

For me being in love or falling in love with someone catches you unawares and hits you with a deep emotional force. It can be disorienting and confusing, as well as exhilarating and exciting. Whereas loving someone is a deliberate continual action, that goes beyond infatuation and momentary feelings of elation and joy. It requires a devotion to the other person.

I think there's a distinction between falling in love and being in love. For me, falling in love is as you described. My idea of being in love is what you describe as loving someone - the deliberate continual action.

My loving someone (as opposed to being in love) is a comfortable, steady state where you don't have to try. It doesn't require the same kind of devotion, it's just there. It doesn't really require any effort, but it doesn't have the highs and the powerful lasting emotions of being in love either.

Yeah this. I'll add you can love friends and family. You can only be in love with 'the one'. Polyamorous types might disagree though.

South East Midlands NOT

Different kinds of love. I love my family and friends. Being in love is very different. There is passion, desire, strong emotion.

Being in love is the butterflies thing. Loving someone is the warm glow.

Having both- the holy grail x

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

The difference? madness.

Try and describe the falling in love/being in love state and it doesn't really sound sane. It sounds like a chemical imbalance, an addiction or a compulsion.

Loving someone not only sounds sane but feels sane.

Just sometimes you are in love with the person you love. It's the best when you get the slightly irrational thrill, the tingle down your spine feeling, alongside the certain knowledge that you are safe and have the steady love too.

There are people I have been in love with and people I have loved. I continue to love them all but I don't always like them anymore.

Yes, there is a loss of control with being in love that is not often present when you simply love.

little house on the praire

I've never really been one to fall in love, once and it was destructive and now with jay

With jay after nearly 10 years I still fall in love with him a little bit more every time where together, I didn't realise a heart was so expandable. I think if I just loved him it would stay the same and not alter

hiding from cock pics.

I think sometimes though just normal life being "in love with someone" becomes "loving someone".

Both states have different attributes in my opinion, the passion and butterflies becoming the stability and long term trust and experiences shared.

Sometimes maybe you get both long term... Sometimes just one, or one follows the other...

Just how I see it... Other opinions are available!
