lmao, and the reason why is because the romans and then normans built the roads to accomodate horses and the distance between the front two horses was that. When they built the first railways they used this measurementof the horse and cart for the railways.

Many countries use the same measurement

Just as well they never used Shetland Ponies then....the carriages on trains would be so much smaller in width.
