Why, when you ask for a black coffee, do some waiters insist on asking 'do you want milk with that'?

I drink americano when I'm out, got so sick of the asking if I want milk I changed to asking for americano black and they still ask me if I want bloody milk

I've never been asked that cause I do have cold water in mine and ask for small jug

What really does my head in is when you ask for black coffee but end up with white coffee and when you tell them you asked for black coffee, they look at you in disbelief... Why the hell would you lie about it?
