Getting your 5 or 7 a day portions of fruit and veg? I've slipped up, having just 3 or so over the last couple of days - I am overseas on holidays though.

If you're not getting yours, make this a motivational thread, to increase your uptake.

Wine only counts as half, due to the processing involved of the grapes.

It depends on your body type,5 a day is a general figure, the speed of your metabolic rate is one of the factors which determines the amount of roughage a body needs, others which have a bearing would be the likes of fat intake or the level of alcohol consumption, how often you eat stodgy foods. If you get bunged up take more roughage,if you are taking a trip to sit on the loo very often consume more protein.Everyone is different.

5 a day is an entirely fabricated amount.

It has no scientific background.

Not always true. I have been told by a doctor that if you are constipated you should experiment with either more OR less fibre!

As you said, everyone's different.

And yes, veg is better than fruit due to the sugar in fruit.

ive been through a few skint times where ive filled up on bread pasta and spuds - fruit was just too dear - frozen veg is cheapish - skin seemed to suffer the most and gain a little weight - but survived -

I easily have more than 5 everyday at the moment, but I'm trying to shift it more towards veg and away from so much fruit. It's making for some interesting breakfast combinations.

Don't be silly, it contains:

Raisins (fruit of the grapevine)

Nuts (fruit of the almond tree)

Cocoa (fruit of the cocoa tree)

Sugar (err, fruit of the sugar-beet plant)

Milk, which comes from grass, which is clearly a vegetable (and fruit of a cow?)

Plus TWO other VEGETABLE fats.

That's 7 of your 5 a day right there (assuming you eat a big enough bar)

You have to be careful though, since many of the nutrients are processed, sometimes your body can't absorb them fast enough unless you bulk them out with other food. Monster munch are ideal for this.

Voilà, washed down with a can of orange Fanta, a perfect, healthy breakfast. *

Very true.

In Japan they supposedly aim for 17 portions a day.

The government just state 5 a day to us because they perceive anything more, to be counter productive.

(I still think a 'nutribullet' sounds like a healthy sex-toy)
