Can you please give me details of local estate agencies and job agencies in your area..I know it sounds weird but I am thinking of moving in about 8 months or so, so I am looking to do my homework, so any help is graciously appreciated x

There's lots of accounts type work in London but unless you're fully qualified you won't earn enough to afford to live in London unless you have enough to buy somewhere.

I love London and wouldn't consider living anywhere else but I do appreciate it can be difficult for someone not used to it. You have to consider your space standards being reduced, everything costing a lot more and the 8.5 million other people living here along with the other 1-2 million that just come to work or visit.

Well maybe look at salary surveys for the kind of job you would be looking at? Most of them are split by region. Or go on weekends down to different places to scope them out!

I wish I had the balls to move, I dunno why but Cardiff and Bristol have always appealed to me (and I've not even been to either!!)

I was working in Bristol earlier this year. I really liked the vibe and could imagine living there.

The Garden of Eden in Beautiful North Wales

I'd like to move a bit further north. The people are friendlier, employment is increasing and you have a choice of lots of cities/towns to work in and play in.

Newcastle and Northumberland are wonderful and I'll always sell them to anyone, but the job market is a bit shit, not much of a financial services sector. Unless you're in industry, in which case it's not too bad at the moment.

Are you looking at public or private sector ?

With transferable skills you should fit in well wherever you go, but I know that Welsh Government have a need for good financial auditors

South Manchester/Cheshire has some lovely areas, the economy in the area is booming. House prices are affordable in many areas and it is only going to get better with HS2 in the pipeline. Soon you'll be able to get to London quicker from Manchester Airport than from Heathrow or Gatwick. With the advent of HS2 the airport will be upgraded to cover even more Worldwide destinations. Over the next 10 years it will become an even more attractive place to live.

Bristol is lovely. If I was ever to leave Edinburgh, I'd go live in Bristol. There are so many nice areas that are affordable, I considered it a while ago.

London has everything you need but can be expensive property wise feltham is a not bad area for house prices somewhere on feltham/Hampton border is a little better in terms of area x

East Sussex

This part of the country is lovely you've got the coast, the countryside and Brighton is close by. However don't be fooled by the media the streets aren't paved with gold and jobs are hard won and easily lost still. I would recommend it though.

Google estate agents and job agencies also Google local papers there's a free publication called Friday-Ad that is also on line too.

I love Hertfordshire and having found my way here from Birmingham via a spell in London dot I'll ever leave. Property is relatively cheap if you are used to London prices but still expensive compared to the rest of the country. I'm 20 minutes from the centre of London and surrounded by beautiful countryside. But the lack of large towns let alone any cities on this side of the county means the job market is not the best and many people commute primarily to London but others to Cambridge and Milton Keynes

Brighton - even Hove!

I'll chuck in my suggestion for Sussex. There are some cheaper areas and a lot of it is by the seaside. Plenty of jobs in the right area, especially the Gatwick/Crawley area which is quick to Brighton and London on the train. Brighton is a quirky and 'young' town and keeps going through the winter due to two Univerisites.

I love birmingham, ive lived all over the country but mainly Hertfordshire, yorkshire, Staffordshire and birmingham.

Birmingham wins for me everytime.

Everything you could possibly need on your doorstep a good swinging scene. Great nightlife. Christmas market. Bull ring for shops and grand central opening next week

Easy to get to other areas and reasonably cheapish house prices too x

If you were seriously interested in the Bristol suggestions/ideas - I'd look at Somerset too.

Takes me 40 mins to drive to Bristol. And 10 minutes to the beach!

M5 is easy access to Bristol, Taunton and Exeter. Property prices seem more reasonable than Bristol itself and the job market doesn't seem too bad either (being in redundancy leave for a while I should know! Lol).

The world is your oyster - I'd look at jobs first, then accommodation. You could always look to rent in the short term til you decide if any area is right for you rather than rush into a purchase.

If everywhere is on the table and career is important to you I'd be inclined to let the job drive the location rather than the other way round. A friend of mine who wanted to get out of London has just done this (with the caveat that she wanted to be in a city) basically narrowed her job search to particular organisations/roles she wanted to work for, applied for those she was really excited by and has now ended up in Leeds and is very happy

My current company has business in the Bristol area, so I may try that first as relocation would be so much easier! At least I have a few months to do my homework

That is my plan! I need job security before I can just up and leave...I have it all here but....that is the thing, I have job and property only and that is no life is it?

I'd say location before job as the job you get might be ideal but then pauvre foxy might get made redundant 6 months in and may be stuck avec a house in a second choice location, whereas even if she doesn't get an ideal job, she will still be in a lovely area if she chooses that first.

wouldnt recommend suffolk..4th most expensive place to live in the @@UK, and its kept rural and 'inaccessible' as its now used by snotty executives, as a country retreat on the edge of the commuter belt as its 1 hour and a half from london..better scenery, better beaches, friendlier peeps, better fun, somewhere else

beyond cambridge, i always start smiling, if i was to relocate anywhere right now..id look at st neots, or surrounding area

Gatwick express is 30 minutes to Victoria, Heathrow one is probably only a bit longer..

OP: I'm in Cornwall ( near Bodmin ).

I'm an actor so, when I can arrange things for my children I work all over the place.

However the job market down here is a bit sore from what I can gather ( the bigger places like St Austell and Truro are probably better than the "Plymouth" side of Cornwall like here.

If you can focus on where you'd like to be anywhere in the country, there are some fantastic websites for each region so take your time and really enjoy it, wherever you wish to end up.

If ( and I do say IF ) you wish to end up in this part of the country it is very beautiful if you love the outdoors but the water rates are the highest in the UK ( because we have more coastline than any other water board ) and the council tax and rents are ridiculous.

If you want to settle somewhere for a few weeks and relocate over time it's worth looking at a website called spare rooms, which is a great place to find a room to get you started while you look for a " home" ( house shares, flats, annexes etc are there all the time )...

South coast is lovely and there are quite a few head offices down this way.

I'm a qualified accountant, having moved from greater London a few years ago.

There are quiet a few uni's down here as well and plenty to do.

Wherever you go, you would probably be better off learning to drive.
