Are you scared of dying? The life insurance thread got me thinking that one day I'm going to die and it has slightly freaked me out....I know it's a bit morbid so apologies...

Not frightened at all but it does feel a bit weird that one day you will be here and the next day not. More concerned about the people I will leave behind so that's why the will and finances are sorted...that's the least I can do.

Is kindof scary, knowing you can't opt out. The fact that you are here, means that 1 day, you'll be gone. The inevitability of that, really sucks. Just gotta make every day count.

After spending the last 5 months trying to administer my wife's estate, I'm gonna make sure I don't leave a mess, for whoever has to deal with mine.

Dementia robbed her of everything, except a love of music and a sense of humour, which she kept right until the end. Gave her a bright purple coffin, covered in big cheerful daisies - to her fav tunes.

I can testify to it being shit, for the person left behind

I'm sorry for your loss.

My point about the paperwork is exactly that issue of leaving that work behind of administering the estate. Even those with nothing still leave the administration behind.

I'm scared of getting an illness and suffering all the way till the end. I also wanted to have another child so my daughter would have a sibling to mourn with and go through it with when I do pass away but I ain't getting any younger and haven't even got a boyfriend!

I fear being old (or more accurately infirm) far more than I fear death.

And those who know what i do for a living probably know why I'm at ease with my mortality, but I've seen some horrific stuff and fear dying in such a way.

Also, I always think of it like Achilles in the Illiad - I don't want to be remembered forever as old and infirm. I'd much rather die as an able person, avoid the pain, and be remembered as I really am.

My Dad died 12yrs ago on the 23rd of september, and I miss him so much...

Mostly I remember happy times, but sometimes I just want a big dad hug telling me everything is ok..

I want my Dad back, bloody cancer, I bloody hate that disease !!!

I hope you feel better. I lost my dad a few years ago...4 days after I got engaged. I can understand how you feel. I miss him every day. Just think of happy times with him and he'll always be with you.

I know exactly how you feel only with me it was my Mum she died 8th Jan 1988

Yes... I'm scared of leaving the people I love behind and how my death would affect them. I'm scared of missing events after my passing. I'm scared of suddenly dying in case I'm angry at someone, on case we never made things up.

And... most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life... the way I feel when I'm with you! (Sorry.)

You dont realise how much the hurt is still beneath the surface, until an unexpected trigger makes it jump out and smash you in the face.

Helps a lot, having a distraction like fab - but the Kleenex days are more common than I'd care to admit.

There should eventually come a time, when happy memories outweight the sadness of missing them.

I had a near miss when I went into a blazing house and rescued a two year old toddler ... I didn't think at the time, but once I realised what I done I started thinking about my mortality all the time! I don't really worry about it now. I have just made sure there are things in place for my children for when my ticket gets punched!

Yeah, I'll second that. Been there and done that.

On a brighter note my Hubby wanted "girls just wanna have fun" and "sex on the beach" played at his funeral, sadly my sons vetoed the idea and as I was so upset at the time and incapable of arguing they got their way - something I now regret

If someone outright told me a date i was going to die i'd be scared and panic the nearer that got, which is weird coz that day actually is coming and i don't really acknowledge it.

Once i'm dead i won't know about it, it will just hurt anybody i leave behind. I'm not scared for that reason.

When I had my son I had pre-eclampsia. I remember them working on me but I was looking down on myself. I was dying but they managed to save us both. I spent four days in a coma in intensive care and Matthew five weeks.

When we finally took him home I'd never been happier in my life. Three weeks later he was found dead in his cot.

Death holds no fear for me as it's going to happen. Living with loss on the other hand...

As a young adult death was quite common, crime, war and accidents took a lot of the people I knew and worked with. It took the death of my father to change my outlook on death. A year later sitting with my step dad as the life ebbed from him and later on sitting with my mom watching her take her last breath. I don't think we are ever as conscious of our own mortality until we loose our own kparents. I'm comfortable knowing I will die one day. As long as I have a dignified ending and they play the Muppets Manamana song as my coffin leaves the church, I'm happy.

Being afraid of something it's impossible to avoid is pointless.

You only get one shot. You may as well enjoy it and experience it fully.
