Playing Miss Marple - How accurate is?......

How accurate is the icon that indicates how far someone is away from you whilst they are on their mobile? (the 'world internet' one on the left of your profile)?

I'm confused... Ive just asked someone where they are and apparently they're currently holidaying in Devon, but their profile shows them to be 15/20 miles from me. which is where he says he lives...

Depends if his who's near me is switched on. It may remember its last location when it was on.
