Did you see the programme on C4 the other night- they interviewed some of the few remaining pilots and some of the female pilots- very touching x

....for some reason the distant sound of the rolls royce merlin engine gets me everytime i hear it.even today they command repect in the air from every other aircraft flying and when they are in formation with the lancaster and wellington for the fly past they are a spectical everbody should stop and see.

Respect goes out to all who flew them during the war-may their memories live on.

Titz Towers, North Notts

As a kid I had a wander about in the Lancaster and got up close to the Hurricanes and Spitfires, as we had a friend who was on the maintenance crew.

...Up on the Downs

I think BBC News 24 are covering it, they were a few mins ago, and the beeb is covering something at Biggin Hill over the next couple of days, not sure exactly what's happening when.

For goodness sake really?

Why is 75 years more important than 50 or 70 or 76 years? Or is it just another pathetic trite excuse for BBC bashing?

They seem to be expected to cover everything that everyone in the country wants at every time or they should be ashamed and are dirty left wing rats.

Come on guys, let's get some perspective.

The BBC can't film or broadcast everything. For a start, they'd need permission and I suspect the organisers envisage a nice little earner from DVD sales.

PS It's almost worth the licence fee to see Sophie Raworth (sp) in a flight suit.
