Changing not guilty plea to guilty

a person charged with a serious offence pleads not guilty then changes their plea to guilty not long before the trial is due.

Will their sentence be reduced to the same extent as if they'd pleaded guilty in the first place?

Anyone got real life experience of this scenario?

Chams or Socials

Pleading guilty normally knock 1/3 off the sentence. Even a late guilty plea will reduce the sentence but maybe not as much. It saves court costs & time by not needing a full trial or using expensive barristers (normally funded by the state via legal aid)
