Anyone ever had surgery for this? What was your recovery time and did it work?

I had electric shock therapy but I still have it and it's horrible

A work colleague had the surgery and yes it worked was back at work in 2 weeks .hardly a scar .

I had surgery. Under local anaesthetic and it was bloody painful. Took quite a while to heal and had to have physio and hot wax treatment. But all things considered it was better than if I hadn't had the op.

I am going for surgery soon and a bit scared I guess. Having read some horror stories in blogs, I was hoping that it would not be too bad. Just the thought of having it done under local freaks me out.

Hope it goes well try meditation techniques before surgery that will help with the fear

Thanks. Bet you can buy a self hypnosis cd for it somewhere too! Lol. I would just rather not be awake while they do it tbh.

Jenny it's not too bad honest...you don't see anything and most minor surgery is now done while awake..

The wrists will be sore and weak for first few days...if having both done at same time make sure you have someone you are comfortable with around to help with certain personal things as movement isn't great to start with...they give you exercises to do each day on them to build them back up...person I knew who had them done was fine after a week and back to work after 2 weeks...hope that helps...and good luck.

I used to work in operating theatres and helped with these often. They do it under local and with a pressure cuff on your upper arm to minimise the blood flowing to the hand. It means you get a quicker recovery and less risk as anaesthetics aren't risk free. Also means they can check your hand movement soon after they've finished.

Happy to answer any questions you have but I would recommend speaking to your surgeon/consultant if you're really nervous.

I've had electro therapy for it too about 8 years ago. I get cramps and pains every now and then but not that much since. So glad i changed from working in a busy call centre.

ive only had the injections (which fkin hurt) and they are no longer working..

finding it hard to hold cuttlery, write and colour in

think surgery might be my next option

Lyn had both wrists operated on at the same time. Two weeks off (during Wimbledon) and she has been fine since. Worked really well and only very small scars. Good luck!

Hi Jenny, I suffered a while back now ,had the wrist supports which I used on a night time then I went for acupuncture had around 5 sessions,found this worked for me,but what ever treatment you end up with I hope it works out for you yeah xx

There was an interesting piece on Radio 4 about this last Wed or Thur, you may be able to find it on iPlayer (sorry, can't remember which show, but a daytime one) - one specialist was talking about the fact that for some people (I think he reckoned around 5%), the surgery actually leaves them with more pain than before, and wishing they hadn't had it done!

Sadly there didn't seem to be any way to know in advance if this might happen to any specific individual - but a risk to factor in I suppose if you're considering it?

I watched my op being done. They put a massive rugby glove over the wound. Was driving again within a week.
