I know it's bad Diamond but if you want free glasses you can always hang around at closing time and get them from the pub.

Most people who need hearing aids are likely to be pensioners and not working? Is probably cheaper not to employ people to do the paperwork to find out who could pay.

Because there is a link between unaided hearing loss and dementia.

The long term costs associated with unaided hearing costs are massive as loss of hearing leads to social isolation (physical withdrawal leads to lower activity levels) and depression and a higher chance of requiring social care.

And people are more likely to wear glasses than hearing aids so you're more likely to get away with charging for glasses and people will still actually wear them. People will actively avoid wearing hearing aids so charging for them will reduce the number if hearing aid wearers further.

A lot of people don't. It makes you wonder just how many people who appear confused in their later years are actually dementing or if they actually have an unaided hearing loss.

That's good to hear that it's for our benefit, not for something just to benefit suppliers etc. I thought it was perhaps due to greater lobbying power of the opticians vs. hearing aid industry.

You used to get free glasses I'm sure you remember Michael Cain ... Optitions were privatised 20 odd years back , sub sections of the nhs are being privatise all the time. give it a few more years

my son had hearing problems and it took awhile to get it sorted. Instead of turning things up or saying he couldn't hear, he would sit on top of things so we thought it was his eyes, his hearing went down to 20% and took 3 lots of gromits to sort him out but thankfully it did.

Strange thing is the few people that I know that are registered deaf are all younger than me.

What pisses me off is that I need glasses to use my computer at work, and all the time tbh, but those with occasional requirement can get a contribution towards them, but I cannot

I use lenses when not staring at the pc, but that's my cosmetic choice

Your employer is breaking the law. If you are a DSE user (use a computer for an hour or more most days) your employer is required by law to provide a free eye test. If you need glasses for DSE use (not general use, DSE) your employer is required by law to fund these.
