Hiya everyone,

I was just thinking about this, and I thought I would pose the question to the people of fab

The Ring of Gyges, for those of you not familiar with Plato, is often used by moral philosophers as a thought-experiment.

So, I would like to ask this, if you had a ring that gave you the power to be invisible at will, would you still act morally if there was never the chance that you would be caught doing bad acts? If you could, for example, steal while completely invisible, knowing you would never be caught....would you? Or would you remain moral even without the social ramifications?

As usual, I love to hear your thoughts.

Other than hide out in ladies changing rooms I think I would probably keep my moral compass. But I guess until actually in that position it's hard to say, I mean if you *knew* you could get away with almost anything you are likely to cede to temptation eventually, aren't you?

There's certainly a few people I wouldn't mind anonymously slapping for sure!

Then with my ill gotten gains I'd make bets on sporting events and use my invisible super power to decide the out come

I'd decline the ring, not for moral reasons, but because I'd just have to look at things I shouldn't and probably find out things I'd be better off not knowing. Ignorance can be bliss.

I know for a fact i wouldn't act morally still. If i can get away with stuff now i will do that already.

I'd still have similar morals to what i have now, and i'd probably cause myself some actual harm to by using my ability too, although only me would know about it.

So it would give you choices how to behave, ......at the start of the game I played like any rpg ; bringer of light a true hero , but after being offered the choice to be good or evil for half the game . I thought .....

It's amusing because I truely like to think of myself as having way, way above average morals and integrity but there is absolutely no fucking chance in hell I wouldn't do things I know I shouldn't.

The way it's been described several times, the internet is somewhat like a ring of invisibility. I reckon with this logic, I'll be fine. However, my work colleagues will disagree because I already keep sneaking up on them to make them jump

My issue isn't social norms, mainly more legality. Put it this way - most of my transactions would be cash and every bank branch in the south would be wondering where the hell their big bundles of cash were.

There are so many things you could do to your advantage and I definitely would.

Of course, there's a few women I'd like to see naked but will never likely be able to too.

As for morality, apart from the latter, I just wouldn't want to waste an excellent opportunity to give myself an advantage I wasn't born with.

At some point you would find out what friends/family work colleagues really think about you,

Most of it I would just except but it would probable chance the way I think

I would say, yes, some people do know themselves, even with this power. Some people have the ability to be completely honest with themselves. Not everyone, but still....some. And even if you don't know for sure, you can hazard an educated guess....

Not that I am saying you necessarily have to, just that some people, I think, could.

It is my own conscience that matters. Not what others allow or disallow me to do.

I would, however do lots of things that i don't do whilst visible because I don't see them as immoral but I am bound by social mores, laws , convention etc.

This is very much how I feel as well. Although it would be interesting to see how willing we are to let ourselves "slip" if we were ever in that situation.

I'd use it for freaking people out, I'd have a friend with whom to make it look like they're telekinetic, making people jump, and being a very filthy perv. So nothing would change... Except for the telekinesis stuff,that would be sweet

I'd probably be morally questionable

To be the fly on the wall watching and listening to everything around me, a secret voyeur

However I'd like to think that I would balance this with ask if the hood things I could do aiding those who need it, fighting off muggers and bank robbers
