Hereabouts

Now I'm probably being extremely thick... But can someone explain to me the concept of places like Co-op delivering your shopping for you? You have to go to the shop to do the shopping in the first place... But then they'll deliver it? I'm really confused...

And if I am being thick I blame the blonde hair...

You can choose all the things you want, pack it all up and then you don't have to carry it home. They will deliver it. It means you can choose your own peaches, just the way you like them.

The other option is ticking the boxes on the internet and then them delivering those things. It means they choose your peaches and half of them might be rotten by tomorrow.

Iceland used to do that. I think you still had to book it though.

Right that kinda makes sense. So like, I do my big food shop online at asda... But I go to co-op for things with short sell by dates like meat and milk etc that asda always give me with sell by dates 2 days after its delivered...

I can kinda see how it works.. But if you're going to the shop anyway, why not just take it home there and then? Unless you have to walk home and can't carry £25 worth of shopping.. But surely that's the minority of people?

Yup thats the idea...but im not sure why your getting the short shelve lifes tbh...its taken straight off the shelf like you would do if your shopping

You might want to head off for a coffee or to see a friend. It's an offer some shops now make. If it saves you carrying it up the hill, when it will cause you difficulties, then use it.

My Waitrose offers the service. It's not something I would use but I know some people do as the woman who drives the van is out and about a fair bit.

You Dont Need to Know, right now

I shop online with Tesco, and it's great. Their site tells you what the 'fridge life' of each item is, e.g. fish. And for bread, fruit, etc, they always pick out the goods with a sell-by date well in the future.

And unlike Sainsbury's, you don't have to book a delivery slot several days in advance. Tesco can usually deliver the next day.

Shops move all the near to use by dates to the front of the shelf. If you're not planning to have the lamb chops for four days but the use by is tomorrow that's annoying. If you choose your own you can reach to the back and buy the one with the longer date.

Doesn't everyone do this?

Lots of reasons why you can't get £25 worth of shopping home. If you're buying milk, tins etc it could weigh a tonne, maybe you're off out and want it delivered later when you're home rather than it sweating in the boot of the car, I don't drive and have a 4 year old trying to negotiate a bus and a child with 6 carrier bags is hard work. I know some people do their shopping before work then get if delivered later in the day when they get home.

Before I drove it was a god send. Having to negotiate shopping bags and a toddler on the bus was my idea of sheer hell and at that point i was a single mum and I didn't want to waste my hard earned money on a taxi home

When you order online with tesco each item usually has a +4 days, +2days etc next to it when you select it. When the delivery guy turns up you can refuse anything with dates less than stated, they even highlight it on the delivery note and tell you. So you shouldn't get stuck with the crap.
