So, yesterday I went to Osborne House on the IOW. Got told off for touching something I shouldn't have ( yeah, I know!).

What was it, I hear you ask?

A wall.

Made me wonder about what others had been told off for.

I've been told off at work for going out for a ciggie for years. I keep doing it, five minutes in the morning and five minutes in the afternoon. After 14 years I think they've given up telling me off now, it's not happened for a while.

Just a few weeks ago I was given into trouble for putting rubbish in the bin. I thought I was helping, turns out it was wrong.

And yes, it was actually rubbish. A plastic tray (fruit?) wrapped in a plastic bag.

When I used to be a cleaner, I once threw away a box that was sitting on top of a garbage can. The teacher whose room it was told me off for throwing the box away, said it wasn't garbage, that she hadn't put it IN the bin....even told my boss.

Yep.

Lovely place. I can't imagine a visit with a 3 year old! Sadly, I have no excuses. I was fine until I saw the signs that said "Do not touch". Then I wanted to touch EVERYTHING.

Perhaps a tip for the single guys

Smashing a window of an house on a Saturday afternoon when I was about 14.

The house was part of a street that was being demolished and the bulldozers were in.

The copper wanted to nick me and had a big row with his fellow officer, calling me everything during the exchange

Never get told off, doesn't go down very well.

Don't mind being challenged that something that I have done is wrong, or entering a sensible debate, if I was in the wrong or made a mistake then I will appologise but don't talk down to me as I wouldn't do that to you either as it's a total lack of respect.

I was once told off, very loudly and0 with much finger wagging, at work/school by a deputy head.... for doing exactly what he had told me to do.

My reply was to calmly and politely tell him that he was a "Dim Cunt who didn't know his arse from his elbow... and if he ever spoke to me like that again I'd punch him on the nose and find another job". Interestingly enough he was always nice to me after that.

I left school once, amazed that the roads etc were quiet. Got home and realised that I'd left an hour or so early, so phoned them.

Next day I was summoned to the head and given a very severe telling off! If I'd not phoned in and told them, nobody would have likely ever known. And they'll preach the need for honesty still.

And people wonder why sometimes people don't own up to mistakes. Some people/idiots are a bit insecure in themselves so have to belittle others to give themselves a sense of empowerment.

I once got arrested by a 'Special' for sticking up for someones rights to him, was a waste of public time, money and effort for it to go to go through the whole process and end up in court with me getting an apology, all for the sake of a jumped up self important little man with an attitude (him not me ).

I was raised a Seventh Day Adventist, a religion in which from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday you don't work, shop, watch tv etc, you just worship.

One Saturday I was on my way to Lewisham to go shopping. On the bus was some church people who knew my parents and started telling me off for not going to church, how I should remember the sabbath day and keep it holy and how I was raised better than that.

People on the bus were looking with wtf expressions: this was last year...I'm 55 next week

I got told off today because I don't have my title in the signature on my email. The person I work for told me to remove it two years ago. I asked our office manager (the complainer) what he'd like me to write. He couldn't answer.

I can't help but wonder if he realises just how ridiculous he is. I promptly went out for a fag after.

I work in a petrol station and I'm always getting told off by customers who think they know the health and safety rules better than me. Like the time I was told off by a customer when I said that I wouldnt sell them anymore fuel until his partner put out her cigarette after seeing her flick the lighted ash out onto the forecourt floor, or the lady who accused me of embarrassing her when I went out to tell her to get off her phone. She went up to the store to complain and when she didn't get anywhere, then complained that I lent on her car when I closed her car door!

Quite funny how people react when being told what to do!

I got a verbal warning when another member of staff physically attacked me.

The management team knew she had periods of mental instability when she would become violent and didn't see fit to share that with me (I was her line manager) but apparently I should have anticipated it and avoided conversations which might trigger it. Like asking her about consuming alcohol whilst at work...

This was at 8.30 in the evening when hardly anyone was there and this couple had just turned up after i had been sitting there for 20 minutes chatting to another single guy. Wouldn't have minded if a reserved sign was on the table or had been told by the staff they people 'reserve' tables.
