Your favourite ethical company

Do you have a favourite ethical company, one that you support because they are not the usual greedy profit making kind.

Mine is Paramo, they manufacture outdoor clothing, the factory is in Columbia, and the workers are all vulnerable women. Paramo give them a decent wage, housing and schooling for their children.

The materials are recycled by them, and they will repair free of charge for the life of the garment, in order to cut down on waste. Love this company.

Not Meadowhall, can't stand it there, is their a Lush in the city centre?

I've got some stuff from paramo but my favourite shoes are from ecco , also got a tilley hat from Canada that I've had 15 years and some wellies from balmoral that have lasted years

I've also got a fetish for snap on tools

It is difficult. How the company operates directly and then where they invest may have some dissonance.

It's not perfect but mine is the John Lewis Partnership. John Spedan Lewis is one of my business heroes.

The idea that everyone involved should share in the profit now gets called social enterprise. John Lewis has over 90,000 partners and all from an initial idea that people should have an investment in their work and benefit from the profits. If the experiment had failed in 1914 it may not have been fully rolled out in 1920.

Waitrose invests in farmers and the food chain here and through the Foundation. The ready meals are produced through their secure chain and the I can go onto their website and read their financials and weekly performance figures, if I want to.

I like John Lewis and Waitrose too. Their support for local charities is great, where shoppers vote for them, determining which one gets the most money each month.

I try to avoid Nestle like the plague.
