Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

It's one of the easiest phobias to cure. You just need to find the courage to do it. It is without doubt the best thing I've ever done.

Go see your GP and ask for a referral. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Getting help to deal with a phobia of spiders is the most effective way to remove them from your life forever.

Failing that, get a cat.

Conkers, put a few conkers in the corners of your rooms and on window sills. They're supposed to keep them away!

And you can actually stop being scared of them ? And the gp can refer you ?

I have heard somewhere there's an old woman that swallows spiders, that wriggle a jiggle and jiggle inside her.apparently she swallows spiders to catch the fly.I don't know why she swallowed a fly.perhaps she'll die.

Yes. My phobia took over my life. I suffered panic attacks and all sorts. It was utterly hideous. It took balls to get to the therapy sessions but I'm so glad I did it. I never thought I'd be normal. I couldn't even look at a picture of a spider never mind deal with one in my flat.

Go get help. It's super easy to cure and I had it bad. Took about eight weeks. PM my if you want any more info.

I've done this as I read about spiders not liking the saponins in conkers. The spiders just skirted round them

I learned about the conkers repelling effect some time ago, and duly collected my conkers at the right time. It didn't seem to have much/any effect: and have since learned that it's probably not effective, based upon trials.

Spiders do tend to find their way indoors later in the year, so coming soon to our homes. Keeping the area outdoors near your doors is an easy way to spot them getting closer.

They don't like some strong scents, such as Peppermint and citrus - such as Lemon - essential oils. You can mix these and spray around the outside of the house, reportedly, as a deterrent. Not tried this one yet. I'm not anti spider and have had some friendly ones nearby for a few years and they do wonders in the garden for catching troublesome insects: though I'd prefer them to stay there.

Im not ashamed to say it but I'm the same. I freak out to the point where I brake into a sweat and panic. I keep a can of cockroach killer spray in every room. Once I've sprayed them I place a glass over them too. I often won't discard them for about 2 weeks as it takes that amount of time and planning to pluck up the courage and sweep them onto some sort of sheet and throw them awsy. It's crazy but im petrified of them.

I might seriously look into this referral with my GP and see where it gets me

Observe them.

They're more scared of you than you are of them. They'll stay still or scuttle about trying not to be seen by you, then when you make a sudden move they run away in case you kill them.

Seriously they give out CBT courses for being scared of ducking spiders when most people with clinical depression have to wait 6 months + to get a referral for it?

here

there are some plug in electrical items that over time reduce the spiders that are in your house.

They don't immediately get rid of them, but over time they do help.

You are also seeing more spiders at the moment, as the weather is changing, and so they are all heading indoors to keep warm

People with depression get treatment within 6 months when I waited 18 months for my kidney disease diagnosis? This NHS is a fucking joke!

18 months? My blood sugars were too high for 3 years and nobody noticed until (another) locum filled in at our practice and then he changed my meds.

I had to wait just like everyone else. I didn't just demand an appointment. I went to my GP for a prescription for sleeping pills so that I could actually function. I wasn't just scared of spiders. I had a phobia which was taking over my life. It was debilitating and I needed help. Just because I wasn't suffering from clinical depression doesn't mean I'm not entitled to help.

I'm assuming, perhaps wrongly, that you think my issue was trivial and didn't warrant any professional help cause I'm simply 'afraid' of spiders. Unless you've suffered a phobia I'm not sure you'd understand just how horrendous that is. I know I probably wouldn't have understood it had I not suffered but when you can't speak because the only thing you're concentrating on is managing to breathe through a panic attack over something that's totally irrational, you know that you need help.

I'm just as entitled to help as the next person regardless of their illness. One is not more or less important than the next. One is perhaps more urgent than the other in terms of getting help but they both deserve treatment in my view.
