How they're scored matters not. Fair play to the man, his record will probably not be beaten in any of our lifetimes.

6 goals in all tournaments is still pretty pants.

On Talksport on the way home they said 5 pens including today's vs 3 for Charlton. I'm surprised thought there was more than that for Rooney?

Catthorpe

What an achievement, totally take my hat off to him. Thought Linekar was going to do it then Owen and wasn't sure I'd see Sir Bobby topped. Hard to believe I saw him as a 14 year old and thought who does he think he is and now he's our nations highest ever goal scorer, wow just wow!

Him.

Jimmy Greaves would had easily done it years ago...and no one would had caught him...but im afraid at the time Jimmy wasnt gentlemanly enough if thats how i can describe him...his goal to games was far superior to anyone elses

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

I don't understand this. He got injured, lost his place and couldn't get it back.

What am I missing? What was ungentlemanly about it?

Just be thankful he's even bothered. Superb achievement and he's only going to add to it

Comparing his record to Greaves isn't valid as it's played in a completely different erase where Rooney plays against more organised defences and the game is more tactically astute.

I don't buy the goals in international tournaments argument either as it's been a general England failure, the guy isn't a one man team.

Besides, he's scored against far better opposition in the premier league and champions league than what he'll ever face at international level.

But england play far more friendlys now than back in the greaves era,44 goals in 57 games for greaves i wonder how many if he had played 107?

Rooney is very much a Marmite type of player for England. He has done well in breaking the record so hats of to him.

He didnt lose his place...he was actually a piss head...and i've actually held speakers nights with some of the world cup winning squad...Jimmy would had easily scored more goals than any other English player had he comformed

Hope it does I mean it only took Rooney 12 years to set it so logically it could well happen in the next 12-15

More organised defences? San Marinos defence is like a fishnet trying to hold water.
