Costco, unless I make them myself and without blowing ones own trumpet, they're bloody gorgeous.

They won't be last year's stock. Being the pastry type of product they are, they only have up to around 60 days shelf life. There is a high demand for these from September onwards hence why the best before date being in November. Some retailers actually have mince pies in store all year round but then change the packaging and spec to be more seasonal in September.

That's cause they've got MINCE in them... those things they sell at Christmas (or in September) do not contain MINCE as we know it... there's all sorts of nasty stuff in them.

I've never found a shop mince pie where I could eat a whole one without feeling sick. My husband never used to eat them until I started making my own mincemeat. I've converted many a non eater of mince pies with my wares

Mine are made using a traditional recipe for the mincemeat and do contain minced beef. I bet you couldn't tell there was actual meat in them though.

Yes but the Christmas mince pies used to contain meat as well as the fruit and spices but over the years the amount of meat was reduced and now the only animal product in mince pies is suet

I love mince pies....

Warm slightly.... then carefully remove the lid pop on a large dollop of clotted cream replace the lid and enjoy the creamy juicy pleasure encased in sweet buttery pastry..... goes down well with a glass of mulled wine
