I can't believe how expensive they seem to get every year. I've spent 500 since yesterday. My son's new school have the emblems embroidered onto all there garments to can only buy from them. Then you got P.E kits and accessories to buy........

Not too bad here, but i easily spent more on one uniform than i would on clothes for me and all my kids for the whole year.

That's on two children, clothes, bags, gym kit, the blazer for my son was £80 alone.

It was the same at my school, and our emblem was on the PE kits too.

Back in our day you just ironed them on onto the blazer pocket, bought the tie then you could buy the shirts/skirts/trousers from anywhere, I do really feel for parents who struggle financially. Yes parents should be fight back......

We had a blazer with a logo and a school tie. Nothing else had to be from a specific shop.

If all the parents at the school said "no more" what could the school do?

It annoys me because they are just reinforcing the idea that people have to wear certain clothes to fit in. Kids today have enough on with being told how to look body wise without schools joining in.

I've just forked out on college uniform for my son. £15 a polo shirt with the college logo, trousers are £20 a pair, then safety boots on top and £380 a yearly bus pass!

Son said he'll treat me when he leaves college and gets a job.

Yeah it was 80p for a badge to put on cheap uniforms.

You can actually get help from the school to buy uniforms, they have money set aside for families who strggule or take in 2nd hand uniforms from parents who don't want them. Just saying for anyone who needs that.

my opinion is its about time they sold sewn on school emblems instead of allowing parents to get ripped off by demands from school

even at 80p or a pound at least a parent could buy clothes from other places and just sewn on the emblem or have it done by a seamstress

Isn't monopoly discouraged in this country? You can get a plain blazer for £25 and sew on a £5

School badge. They are making a mint!

When my son was at high school, they had to have their surname on their PE kit, in bold letter on the back of their clothes.

Made my son get bullied more by kids that weren't in his form, due to his Polish surname, thinking his family are illegal immigrants. Fucked me off it did.

I think it would be a matter of sending the child home, marking the child absent then giving you a fixed penalty notice for your child not attending school. It's a vicious circle.

I think there is something still in place where families on low income get the blazer and a pair of trousers given to them maybe a few more items. Not sure who provides it though.

I've just moved my son from mainstream school to special needs, last year I paid 25.00 for one jumper, if he had gone to the senior school where my other kids went then I would needed blazer, pe kit, shirts, ties, jumper with logo, the school he has moved to I needed polo shirts and sweatshirts and new trousers, he doesn't need specific pe kit, I paid 35.00 for everything, this was through tesco direct, seems to me somewhere the companies supplying uniform are on big mark up

Due to the cost, you can often find school uniform for sale on eBay, gumtree, and similar. Also, my school runs a "thrift shop" where they sell not just donated items, but also unclaimed lost property. You can even get bags, coats, bags and trainers.

Son starts year 7 today. Dont even want to think how much the uniform cost us.

Quality of the uniform is crap 100% poly..he is going to be so static like a circuit board.

On the plus side he looks ultra smart like a grown up man.

You can still get uniform grants here, but only in cases of emergency like you had a house fire, my ex looked into it.
