Mild rant here.

80's kid, grew up with little, currently doing ok, depending on your subjective views, hoping to work hard and achieve big things.

See people from Towie and the like earning a significant sum. Not by any means jealous, but at the same time concerned as to:

i) what children in the modern age aspire to be?

ii) what the definition of fame/success is?

What does being a reality star teach children? If you are cool you may earn good money?

Personally I would be mortified to turn up to a social function and describe myself as a 'reality tv star'but each to their own. Discuss

in Lancashire

some will wish to emulate them same as with footballers etc..

its a waste of time and energy worrying about it as in reality (not tv) one can only influence those close to you..

Don't you think it sends out the wrong message?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

A survey of young people asked them what they wanted to be and the answer came back, Famous!

That was about six years ago. I do hope the current crop have better answers.

I think good for them. If I was a hot young thing and could get paid for doing fuck all then I would.

I despair about the young 'uns that aspire to do the same though. At least when I was younger, we may well have dreamed of being a cheesy pop star but we still knew we'd have to go get a proper job in reality. *Some* kids these days seem to really believe the world owes them something.

Trouble is. The media and TV in general sends out the wrong message in a lot of cases. This is just one example. I hope that kids are being brought up to not be brainwashed by such tripe.

have to say both my kids arent in awe if any of that glamour life - in fact daughter has just started her teacher training year this week and said to me the other day - that she wasnt going to be one of those people never tried a career and not worked - both kids have worked since they were 16 and i am a very proud mum

little house on the praire

If people didn't watch the reality programmes or by the shitty magazines or buy the autobiographies of the so called wanna be then they wouldn't be famous.

Chams or Socials

I've never watched these shows

My eldest son has just turned 14 & volunteers with the swim school where he was taught to swim.

He's left a list of jobs to do when home alone all day & has to help round the house after school. My 8 year old is also given age jobs to do. They may not be done to my standard but it gives them life skills. Neither gets pocket money as such - eldest gets his mobile phone contract & youngest saves for computer games.

Eldest has already been told that come his 16th birthday he'll be out looking for part time work whilst studying unless he joins the army!

I was about to watch a programme with a celebrity in it, some sleuth programme. I turned it over quick as anything finding out some TOWIE or other crap prog so-called celeb was on.

Central

I'm ok with big brother but that has been infiltrated with wannabes now. The Essex and Chelsea type gumf plus Geordie filth, no thanks.

I'd like us here to value education, similar to other countries. It's good for kids to learn graft and dedication whilst young. And ignore the so called celeb trash.
