Anyone else have this problem? I don't do it in my sleep but I do it during the day if I'm stressed or anxious. Trouble is I don't tend to notice I'm doing it until I end up with jaw ache at the end of the day... like tonight

I have a mouth guard, somewhere! I tend to shove it in when I notice I'm doing it. Though, it stops me from talking and I imagine some would be grateful for that

I do this, to the extent that I don't have visible canine teeth, have ground them down. I don't do it during the day but sometimes I wake up with jaw ache like I've been smiling for hours. x

Yup lower teeth are at least half the height they should be and the back of my upper front teeth have a wee groove half way up.

Poor dentist has her work cut out correcting them.

When in stressed or tired I grind my teeth, as I am right now

It's periodical and has come back after these six weeks of summer holidays.

I'll be glad that the sprogs are back in school this week

I think we all will benefit from getting back to normality

Yes I'm a teeth grinder.

Didn't realise how bad I was until my new dentist said straight away that I was one.

Always been one but have done more so recently re stress. Think I might I have to get a dental guard for nighttime.

no matter

The hygenist has told me I grind. I sometimes wake up aware that I have my teeth clamped together .. Not sure if I am dreaming or not. I have cut up a gum shield which I put in at the back so my teeth dont touch.

I keep biting the cheek too which leaves my mouth pretty sore. Its all about anxiety really I think. (in my case)

Do you guys keep a gap between your teeth at all times? Unless I'm eating, I try to keep my teeth from touching. (I don't walk around with my mouth open though - unless a cocks near).

Funny you mention that... When I feel myself start I bite my tongue to stop it.

I've recently started to grind my teeth due to stress etc. Didn't notice I was till my mum pointed it out.

Then tonight ouch!!!! Part of my tooth has come off couldn't believe it.

It's turning out to be an expensive habit with an emergency dentist app on a Saturday .

Anyone got any ideas how to break the ha bit or cycle?.

I did and got a mouth guard, but I found that I ground even more as I was so conscious of it. I changed my work life balance so that I had less stress and I stopped doing it!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

When you're feeling stressed make yourself yawn. Do a couple of big, exaggerated fake yawns and move your jaw from side to side. A real yawn will follow.

It will help relax your jaw and make you mindful of it so that you can stop yourself from grinding.

If that fails then consider putting something in your mouth like a lolly stick.

Bruxism can give you earache if you do it too much.

The only real cure is to sort out what is making you stressed at that time if you're doing it when you're awake.

I'm a sleep grinder, been doing it since I was a child, but then, i've always suffered night terrors. I have 2 fractured molars as a result. I'll need falsies soon enough as the repairs never last.

I don't grind but I clench! I do it when my sleep is disturbed which is usually when I'm either ill or stressed. I get bad headaches and muscle pain in my face as well as toothache. Then because of the pain I don't sleep well and clench even more!

So yep I've got a sexy mouthguard too fortunately I just have to wear it when I'm doing it to break the cycle and not every night.

Grind in my sleep, done it since I was a child.

Got a mouth guard for night times which at least allows hubby to sleep hahahaha! Chewed a hole in it already.

I also have a very clicky jaw on the RHS, and it can get locked out of place. Sometimes for hours (once for a day or so) - mostly after I've been SCUBA diving, but sometimes when I've been opening really wide , or clenching from stress or something.

If your jaw muscles start to lock press the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth then keep it there as you open your mouth as wide as you can. It's an exercise my dentist gave me and it does something to those muscles and can really help.

I've seen a. Few posts on it the last few months HQ.

I think I do it at night but I aim to spend the whole day without my teeth closing together, unless eating. It took a fair bit of regular conscious effort to keep them this way, but frequent practice creates habits, which become automatic.

At least it can prevent any other wearing down from getting worse.

I'd recommend trying it out for a while and noticing that your teeth don't automatically have to sit together.

You'll much more easily notice if you break this new habit - as your hours each day won't have it.

Yep, I do that one. Also trying to strengthen the muscles on the opposite side (as it's apparently caused by a weakness on one side, causing the locking side to overwork). Put your fingers against the side of your jaw and try to PUSH against them.
