When you get invited to parties/baby showers etc by family members that you aren't close to, don't speak to from one year to the next unless it's at one of these events and aren't bothered either way..

Do you..

1. Go even though you REALLY don't want to

2. Honestly say that you arent going coz you don't want to

3. Make up some excuse as to why you won't be there..

Always 2 .

No problem at all in having to remember what excuse we concocted .

And time is too short to waste it doing anything we don't want to do

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

4. Tell them I won't be there as I have another party/event/other to go to. I seriously rarely have spare time. My family is getting to the point where we are sorting the date we are all available for our Christmas 2016 get together.

I go if I don't have a reasonable excuse to not go. To be honest, I rarely don't want to do stuff.

2. I'm 54, don't see why I should do anything I don't want to or justify it.

See this is what I would want to do. And I wouldn't be offended at all if someone did the same to me. But I get called a misery

I used to do 3....then I moved to the UK and now my answer is 2.

See OP, all you have to do is move far enough away that people don't even ask

I always get nagged at by my family because I often don't want to go to things like that. I'm usually already busy that day when asked.
